Omicidi UVF 1994: arresti e rilasci

Omicidio Eamon Fox e Gary Convie, 1994

Tre uomini fermati dalla polizia in relazione all’omicidio di due cattolici a North Belfast nel maggio 1994 sono stati rilasciati

Eamon Fox, 44 anni, e Gary Convie, 24 anni, furono uccisi dall’Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) in North Queen Street a Belfast.

Tre uomini, di 43, 52 e 65 anni, sono stati arrestati martedì. Sono stati tutti rilasciati e un rapporto sul caso è stato passato al Public Prosecution Service.

Un uomo di 48 anni e una donna di 41 restano in custodia.

Gli arresti fanno tutti parte dell’Operazione Stafford, un’indagine su una serie di omicidi e gravi crimini compiuti dalla UVF a North Belfast.

Un uomo arrestato precedentemente in relazione con questi omicidi è morto.

Un secondo uomo comparso in aula a inizio anno attualmente è rilasciato con la condizionale.

Fox e Convie erano muratori cattolici provenienti dalla Contea di Armagh. Furono attaccati mentre stavano pranzando in un parcheggio vicino all’edificio che stavano costruendo.

Fox aveva sei figlio mentre Convie solo uno.

1994 UVF murders: Three men freed, two still being questioned

Three men arrested by police investigating the murder of two Catholic workmen in north Belfast in May 1994 have been released.

Eamon Fox, 44, and Gary Convie, 24, were shot dead by the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) at North Queen Street.

Three men, aged 43, 52, and 65, were arrested on Tuesday. They have since been freed pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

A 48-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman remain in custody.

The arrests were all made as part of Operation Stafford, an investigation into a series of murders and serious crimes by the UVF in north Belfast.

One man previously convicted in connection with the murders has since died.

A second man who appeared in court earlier this year charged with murder is currently on bail.

Mr Fox and Mr Convie were builders from County Armagh who were attacked while eating their lunch in a car parked close to their building site.

Mr Fox had six children, while Mr Convie was a father of one.
