Three men who were arrested by detectives investigating the murder of Gerard Jock Davison in the Markets area of Belfast have been released without a charge.

A 38-year-old man was detained in the Belfast area on Thursday before being been released unconditionally.

Earlier this week a 27-year-old and a 41-year-old were also questioned in connection with the shooting. They were also released without charge.

Gerard ‘Jock’ Davison, who was 47, was walking to a local community centre where he worked, when he was shot a number of times on Tuesday.

The former IRA commander died at the scene despite the efforts of local people and paramedics to save him, police said.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway, said: “I would again appeal to people who were in the Welsh Street area at 9am on Tuesday and who have information about the shooting to talk to detectives at Musgrave police station.”
