Ronan Kerr murder inquiry: Second man, 40, arrested
A second man has been held in connection with the murder of police officer Ronan Kerr in Northern Ireland.
The 40-year-old was arrested when a car was stopped between Omagh and Ballygawley in County Tyrone on Thursday.
Constable Kerr, 25, was killed when a car bomb exploded in Omagh on Saturday.
Police say a 26-year-old man arrested in Scotland on Wednesday under the Terrorism Act has now been re-arrested in connection with Mr Kerr’s murder.
Police said the arrest of the 40-year-old man was also linked to the discovery of a weapons and explosives find in the Coalisland area of County Tyrone on Tuesday evening.
The man has been taken to Antrim police station and the vehicle has been seized for examination.
The arms found on Tuesday were:
- Four Kalashnikov rifles
- Six loaded ammunition magazines
- Timer power units
- Detonators
- Incendiary bombs
- Components for rocket launchers and other explosive devices
- Quantity of explosives, possibly Semtex
