McDaid accused granted bail
A father and son charged in connection with the mob murder of Catholic community worker Kevin McDaid have been given High Court permission to live together.David Craig Cochrane (19) was ordered to keep out of Coleraine, as part of conditions under which he was granted bail.
Cochrane, from Windyhall Park in the town, is among 11 suspects accused over the killing in the town in May.
He faces charges of murdering Mr McDaid, a 49-year-old father- of-four, and the attempted murder of Damien Fleming, another local Catholic man injured during sectarian clashes.
Cochrane has been banned from any contact with others allegedly involved in the attack.
But a judge ruled that he could be allowed to stay with his father at a location outside the town after prosecutors raised no objection to the arrangement.
David James John Cochrane, a 48-year-old joiner from the same address, faces a single charge of affray in connection with events surrounding Mr McDaid’s death.
He was granted bail earlier this year. It also emerged in court that 25 people are now under death threat due to the heightened tensions and alleged intimidation surrounding the murder.
Around half of those warned by police about their personal safety are witnesses, while the rest include men suspected of being part of the attack.
Granting David Craig Cochrane bail, the judge also imposed a curfew, alcohol ban and ordered him to report to police daily.
