L’uomo arrestato dagli investigatori nel corso delle indagini sulla morte di Ronan Kerr è stato rimandato in custodia dopo aver respinto le accuse legate a un deposito di armi
Mentre il suo caso sarà riesaminato il prossimo mese presso il tribunale di Belfast, il processo contro il trentatreenne è stato fissato per il febbraio del prossimo anno.
Coyle si è dichiarato non colpevole per nove distinte accuse legate al terrorismo, tra cui l’appartenenza all’IRA, il possesso di armi ed esplosivi in circostanze sospette e la partecipazione o la collaborazione nella preparazione di atti di terrorismo.
Tra i materiali ritrovati nel deposito d’armi nascosto c’erano Semtex, del propellente per razzi, otto detonatori, una quantità di timer improvvisati e centraline, granate fatte in casa, alcuni ordigni incendiari, quattro fucili d’assalto AK, sei caricatori pieni e molte munizioni.
Coyle ha anche negato di avere posseduto oggetti dati in uso alla formazione repubblicana, ossia tre automobili, un furgone e due telefoni cellulari.
Inizialmente Gavin Coyle era stato arrestato in seguito all’omicidio dell’agente di polizia Ronan Kerr, morto per l’esplosione di un ordigno lasciato sotto alla sua vettura mentre si preparava per andare al lavoro il 2 aprile 2011.
Anche se non sono stati forniti dettagli durante la contestazione formale delle accuse, al momento del suo arresto era stato comunicato in aula nel tribunale di Dungannon che un’impronta, proveniente probabilmente da una delle scarpe di Coyle, era stata trovata nei pressi del deposito di armi.
In aula è stato affermato che un esperto di calzature aveva collegato un’impronta ritrovata presso il deposito nei garage di Mountjoy Road a Coalisland con una presa dall’abitazione di Gavin Coyle.

An Omagh man arrested by detectives investigating the murder of Constable Ronan Kerr in April last year has been remanded back into custody after denying charges linked to an alleged major dissident republican arms dump.
While his case will be reviewed next month at Belfast Crown Court, the 33-year-old’s trial has been scheduled for February next year.
In all Coyle pleaded not guilty to nine separate terrorist related charges, including IRA membership, possessing arms and explosives with intent and under suspicious circumstances, and involvement in or helping in the preparation of acts of terrorism.
Among the materials found were Semtex, rocket propellant, eight detonators, a quantity of improvised timers and power units, homemade grenade initiators, a quantity of improvised incendiary devices, four AK assault rifles, six loaded magazines and a quantity of ammunition.
Coyle also denied having articles likely to be of use to terrorists, namely three cars, a van and two mobile phones.
He was initially arrested in the wake of the murder of 25-year-old Constable Kerr, who died in a booby trap bombing as he prepared to drive to work on 2 April last year.
Although no details were given during the formal arraignment of the charges, when initially arrested Dungannon Magistrates’ Court heard that a footprint, allegedly from one of Coyle’s shoes was found near the arms dump.
The court heard that a footwear expert had linked a print found at the lock-up garages on the Mountjoy Road in Coalisland with one taken from Coyle’s home.
