Surgery for man shot in face in Belfast

Polizia a St James Mews, North Belfast

A 53-year-old man has undergone surgery after being shot in the face in north Belfast.

Two gunmen targeted the victim at St James Mews, off the Antrim Road, at around 9pm on Sunday.

It is understood the masked pair got into the house he shares with his partner and child and shot him as he tried to flee.

He was hit in the face.

The man has since undergone emergency surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital and is now in a stable condition.

Forensic teams returned to the scene of the attack on Monday morning, along with police officers who searched the gardens of neighbouring houses in the quiet cul-de-sac.

No-one has claimed responsibility but officers do not believe there is anything to suggest a sectarian motive.

They have appealed for anyone with more information to come forward.
