Orange Order: nessun provvedimento per chi ha partecipato al funerale di Ronan Kerr

L’Orange Order non prenderà alcuna azione contro il leader UUP e orangista Tom Elliott per aver partecipato alla cerimonia funebre per Ronan Kerr

Le regole dell’Orange Order proibiscono ai membri di partecipare a messe cattoliche.

Elliott e Danny Kennedy, ex numero due dell’UUP, hanno partecipato pubblicamente al funerale dell’agente Ronan Kerr tenutosi mercoledì a Beragh.

Entrambi sono membri dell’Ordine. Elliott è un ex Gran Maestro di Fermanagh.

Quando è stato chiesto ad un portavoce dell’Ordine sulla presenza dei due membri, la risposta è stata: “E’ importante che la famiglia Kerr sappia di avere un largo sostegno di tutta la comunità e l’Orange Order offre sincere condoglianze per la perdita del loro coraggioso figlio”.

L’ex leader dell’Ulster Unionist Party e orangista David Trimble partecipò ad un funerale cattolico in Doegal per alcune delle vittime della bomba di Omagh del 1998 senza che alcuna azione disciplinare fosse intrapresa.

Lontano dagli sguardi pubblici, è risaputo che membri dell’Ordine hanno partecipato ai funerali dei propri amici cattolici senza censure.

Sembra che la dirigenza dell’Orange Order intenda operare nello stesso modo in questa occasione.

Order unlikely to censure pair over Ronan Kerr funeral

The Orange Order will take no action against UUP leader and Orangeman Tom Elliott for going to Ronan Kerr’s funeral Mass, the BBC understands.

The rules of the Orange Order prohibit members from attending Catholic Masses.

Mr Elliott and the former UUP deputy leader Danny Kennedy publicly attended the funeral of Constable Kerr in Beragh on Wednesday.

Both are members of the order. Mr Elliott is a former county grandmaster of Fermanagh.

When asked about their attendance an order spokesman told the BBC: “It is important that the Kerr family know they have widespread support throughout the community and the Orange Order offers sincere sympathy to them on the loss of their brave son.”

A former Ulster Unionist leader and Orangeman David Trimble attended a funeral Mass in Donegal for some of the victims of the Omagh bomb in 1998 without any action being taken.

Away from public gaze, it is known that members do attend the funerals of Catholic friends without censure.

It appears the leadership intends the same thing to happen on this occasion as well.
