Owen Paterson chiede accordo sul budget nordirlandese

L’Assemblea ha bisogno di approvare il budget il più velocemente possibile, afferma il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord.

Il Tesoro sta considerando di aiutare l’Irlanda del Nord a diventare una zona industriale e variando il livello dell’imposta sulle società a partire dal 28 % per le grandi imprese gli permetterà di competere con le economie a bassa tariffa come la Repubblica d’Irlanda.

Owen Paterson incontrato i leader d’impresa di tutta la regione questa settimana.

“La grande forza della devolution è che le decisioni locali sono prese da ministri responsabili a livello locale”, ha detto.

“Quindi mi auguro che un bilancio basato sulla Spending Review (documento per la revisione delle spese, Ndt) possa essere approvato rapidamente come è già stato fatto in Scozia e Galles.”

Paterson ha parlato di economia agli incontri svolti nelle Camere di Commercio a Portrush, Newry e Derry. Ha anche fatto il discorso programmatico in occasione del decimo anniversario dell’Enterprise Northern Ireland tenutosi presso la Waterfront Hall a Belfast.

“C’è un messaggio molto chiaro che giunge dal settore privato in Irlanda del Nord: tutti abbiamo bisogno di lavorare insieme per riequilibrare l’economia a partire da ora”, ha aggiunto.

Paterson calls for fast budget deal

The assembly needs to agree a budget as quickly as possible, the Northern Ireland Secretary has said.

The Treasury is considering helping Northern Ireland become an enterprise zone and varying the level of corporation tax from 28% for large businesses to compete with low-tariff economies like the Republic of Ireland.

Owen Paterson met business leaders across the region this week.

“The great strength of devolution is that local decisions are taken by locally accountable ministers,” he said.

“So I hope that a budget based on the spending review settlement can be made quickly as has already been done in Scotland and Wales.”

Mr Paterson has spoken on the economy at chamber of commerce meetings in Portrush, Newry and Londonderry. He also gave the keynote address at the Enterprise Northern Ireland tenth anniversary conference at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast.

“There is a very clear message coming from the private sector in Northern Ireland. It is that we all need to work together to rebalance the economy starting from now,” he added.
