Colin Kelly, consigliere comunale dello Sinn Fein, ha parlato in seguito al lancio di alcune bombe di vernice contro uno dei simboli del quartiere repubblicano del Bogside.
E’ la seconda volta dall’inizio dell’anno che il muro diventa bersaglio del lancio di sacchetti riempiti di vernice.
Parlando dopo l’ultimo attacco, Kelly ha affermato: “Sono stato contattato domenica da un elettore che stava portando alcuni visitatori nella nostra città per un giro turistico della zona del Bogside.
“Era furioso nel vedere ancora una volta la facciata del Free Derry Wall imbrattata da alcune paint bomb.
“E’ una situazione preoccupante, perché c’è stato un altro attacco una settimana circa prima dell’annuale commemorazione per la Bloody Sunday.
“Lo scorso anno sono state lanciate bottiglie molotov contro le bacheche sul retro del muro e la distruzione di alcuni tabelloni”, ha spiegato.
Il consigliere Kelly afferma che gli attacchi contro il muro e contro le bacheche poste sul retro – utilizzate per evidenziare alcune questioni – sono un insulto contro la comunità.

Free Derry Corner attacked
Sinn Féin councillor Colin Kelly was speaking after a number of paint bombs were thrown at the iconic Bogside wall at the weekend.
It is the second time the wall has been targeted by paint bombers since the beginning of the year.
Speaking after the latest attack, Colr. Kelly said: “I was contacted by a constituent who was taking a number of visitors to our city on a tour of the Bogside area on Sunday.
“He was angered to see that once again the front of Free Derry Wall had been targeted with a number of paint bombs.
“This is a very worrying trend, as there was an attack on the wall just a week or so before the annual Bloody Sunday commemoration weekend.
“Last year we had the petrol bombing of the notice boards at the back of the wall and destruction of a number of billboards,” he explained.
Colr. Kelly said attacks on the wall, and the notice board on its rear – which is used to highlight a range of issues – are an insult to the community.
