La scadenza fissata dall’Alta Corte scade oggi.
All’inizio del mese, una sentenza era stata emessa dal giudice Gillen e obbligava Paisley Jr a divulgare entro il 20 aprile il nome del suo informatore in relazione alla morte del leader della LVF, Billy Wright.
Un poliziotto penitenziario, la cui indentità è stata tenuta nascosta, avrebbe riferito a Paisley che dei documenti sarebbero stati distrutti dopo la morte del paramilitare lealista avvenuta all’interno della prigione di Maze nel 1997.
Il parlamentare ha dichiarato di essere pronto a finire in carcere piuttosto che rivelare il nome.
Parlando questa mattina, Paisley resta spavaldo e comunica di sentirsi in obbligo a proteggere la propria fonte di notizie.
“Non presento appello oggi, non credo sia nel mio interesse finanziario o personale”, ha detto Paisley Junior alla BBC.
“Se presento appello e vinco, questo caso andrebbe alla Casa dei Lord.
“Se non mi appello e lascio che il caso torni all’Alta Corte, nulla cambia per me – continuo a non rivelare il nome”.
Parlando a sostegno del suo collega di partito ad inizio aprile, il primo ministro Peter Robinson ha affermato: “C’è un’importante questione in ballo. Le persone dovrebbero sentirsi sicure che ogni informazione riferita al parlamentare o al proprio rappresentate in via confidenziale saranno sempre trattate in tal modo.
“Né l’interesse pubblico né la Billy Wright Inquiry (organismo di inchiesta sulla morte di Wright, NdT) saranno migliori obbligando rappresentanti eletti a rivelare i nomi delle proprie fonti”.

Paisley Jnr defiant over deadline
Ian Paisley Junior will refuse to comply with a court order to reveal the identity of a source.
Earlier this month, a ruling was made by Mr Justice Gillen that Mr Paisley had until April 20 to divulge of his source in relation to the death of former LVF leader, Billy Wright.
Mr Paisley had been told by an unidentified prison officer, who approached him, that documents had been destroyed following the murder of the loyalist within the confines of the Maze Prison in 1997.
The MLA even hinted he would be prepared to go to jail over the matter.
Speaking on Monday, Mr Paisley remianed defiant and argued he had a duty to protect his source.
“I’m not going to appeal today – I don’t believe it’s in my personal or financial interests to keep it running,” he told the BBC.
“If I appeal and win, this case goes to the House of Lords.
“If I don’t appeal and just let the case continue to run back to the High Court, nothing changes for me – I’m not revealing the name.”
Speaking in support of his party colleague earlier this month, First Minister Peter Robinson said: “There is a vitally important issue at stake here. Constituents should feel safe that any information they pass to their local MLA or representative on a confidential basis will be treated as such.
“Neither the public interest nor the Billy Wright Inquiry is best served by forcing elected representatives to name sources.”
