Paisley potrebbe ritornare come parlamentare a Westminster

Ian Paisley ha affermato che difenderà il suo seggio nelle prossime Elezioni Generali

L’ex leader del DUP [e primo ministro nordirlandese dal 2007 al 2008, NdT] ha detto alla rivista politica The House Magazine di considerare la possibile partecipazione alla prossima elezione a Westminster come parlamentare per North Antrim.

Nella pubblicazione, il veterano MP ha affermato: “Penso di voler fare ancora il parlamentare. Mia moglie è nella Casa dei Lords (House of Lords) per cui lascerò a lei il compito di confrontarsi con le nobili Signorie”.

E’ stato largamente trapelato che suo figlio, Ian Paisley Junior, vorrebbe difendere il seggio per il DUP, tenuto da quasi 40 anni dal padre.

Paisley ha rinunciato al suo ruolo da primi ministro lo scorso anno [a favore di Peter Robinson, NdT] ed è ampiamente coinvolto nella politica in prima linea.

Ad inizio mese, il leader del Traditional Unionist Voice, Jim Allister, desideroso di conquistare il seggio di North Antrim, ha detto di non essere sicuro su ciò che i suoi ex colleghi di partito stanno pianificando.

Pailey, 83 anni, ha detto che Allister “è il benvenuto in North Antrim, dove può prendere una bella batosta”.

Comunque un portavoce del DUP ha riferito di non aver ancora convocato un incontro per la selezione del candidato da presentare nella circoscrizione di North Antrim alle prossime elezioni, che si terranno nei prossimi 12 mesi.

‘Paisley could return as MP’

IAN Paisley has indicated he will defend his seat at the next General Election.

The former DUP leader told political journal,The House Magazine that he is considering standing once more for Westminster as an MP for North Antrim.

In the publication, the veteran MP said: “I think I would stand as an MP again. My wife is in the House of Lords, so I’ll leave her to deal with the noble lordships.”

It had been widely tipped his son, Ian jnr, would defend the seat for the DUP held for almost four decades by his father.

Mr Paisley relinquished his role as First Minister last year and is longer involved in frontline politics.

Earlier this month, TUV leader Jim Allister, who is expected to fight for a seat in the constituency, said he was unsure about what his former party colleague was planning.

The 83-year-old said that Mr Allister was “very welcome to come and get a hiding in North Antrim”.

However, a DUP spokesman said that no selection meeting had yet been held to decide who will stand for the party in North Antrim at the next election, which must be called within the next 12 months.
