Lady Sylvia Hermon ha detto di non voler fare campagna elettorale nella sua circoscrizione di North Down come candidato dei Conservative e dell’Ulster Unionist.
Le prossime elezioni per il parlamento britannico si terranno entro un anno.
Lady Sylvia ha detto: “Non posso vedermi sotto le insegne dei Conservative”.
Speculazioni sono circolate per un po’ di tempo sul fatto che intendeva distanziarsi dal collegamento tra il proprio partito ed i Tories di David Cameron.
L’avvocato di ispirazione liberale ha risarcito 2.730 sterline di spese per l’affitto di un appartamento a Londra.
Ha riferito di aver ricevuto un doppio rimborso per due mesi negli anni 2005-2006.
La Hermon ha aggiunto di aver scoperto l’errore quando ha contattato il Fee Office (Ufficio Tasse) lunedì.
L’Ulster Unionist Party sta battendosi per le elezioni europee sotto la bandiera dei Conservative ed Unionisti.
Lady Hermon ha detto alla BBC: “Se il mio partito sceglie di chiamarsi in maniera differente, sono terribilmente dispiaciuta e delusa di ciò, ma resto fedele all’Ulster Unionisti, quello è certamente il mio mandato.
“Ho amato ed apprezzato servire la gente di North Down, loro mi sono stati vicini nei momenti più difficili. Se mi sceglieranno e vorranno che continui a lavorare per loro, farò del mio meglio”.

Unionist MP refuses to stand as a Tory
Lady Sylvia Hermon said she was refusing to campaign as a Conservative and Ulster Unionist candidate for her affluent North Down seat in Northern Ireland.
The next Westminster poll is expected within a year.
Lady Sylvia said: “I can’t see myself standing under a Conservative banner.”
Speculation had been circulating for some time that she would distance herself from her party’s link up with David Cameron’s Conservatives.
The liberal-minded lawyer has repaid £2,730 in expenses for rent on a London flat.
She said she was overpaid by two months’ rental allowance during 2005-2006.
She added she only discovered the error when she contacted the Fees Office on Monday.
The Ulster Unionists are fighting the European elections in around three weeks time under the Conservative and Unionist flag.
Lady Hermon told the BBC: “If my party choose to move to call themselves by a different name I am terribly sorry and disappointed by that, but I remain an Ulster Unionist, that is certainly my mandate.
“I have loved and enjoyed serving the people of north Down, they have stood by me through the most difficult of times, if they choose and wish me to continue to serve them I will do my very best to do that.”
