Pat Ramsey: il ministero deve mettere fine alle strip search

Il parlamentare SDLP Pat Ramsey ha espresso la sua preoccupazione dopo che il ministro della Giustizia ha rivelato di non aver ancora richiesto l’uso di sistemi a raggi X per far terminare le perquisizioni corporali nelle carceri

Ha spiegato Pat Ramsey: “Sono profondamente preoccupato del fatto che il Ministro non ha ancora dato la priorità a questa importante tecnologia da utilizzare all’interno delle prigioni. La relazione di Anne Owers sottolineava l’esigenza per un «metodo efficace e meno invasivo della perquisizione corporale completa», e sono consapevole del fatto che gli scanner ad onde millimetriche hanno già iniziato ad essere sperimentati sia nella prigione di Magilligan che di Hydebank.

Spero sinceramente che non ci saranno ritardi e seguiremo molto attentamente l’impegno preso dal ministro di avviare la richiesta di utilizzo entro la fine di questo mese. Noi tutti vogliamo la fine delle strip search, questo è chiaro dal sostegno della comunità e dai pareri degli ufficiali all’interno delle carceri. Continuerò a seguire questo processo e lotterò per far cessare la perquisizione corporale per tutti i prigionieri”.

Ramsey: Justice Department Need To Prioritise End Of Strip Searches

SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has expressed concern after the Justice Minister revealed that his Department have not yet submitted an application to use the X-Ray Transmission scanners as part of the pilots to end strip searching in prisons.

Mr Ramsey said:

“I am deeply concerned that the Minister has still not prioritised this important piece of technology for use within the prison estate. The Anne Owers report outlined the need for ‘effective and less intrusive method of full-body searching’, and I am aware that the Millimeter Wave Scanners have already begun their pilot in both Magilligan and Hydebank.

I sincerely hope that there is no delay and the commitment that the Minister made that the application would be ready by the end of this month will be monitored very closely. We all want an end to strip searching, that is clear from support in the community and indeed opinions from officers within the prisons. I will continue to monitor this process and fight for an end to strip searching for all prisoners. ”
