Paterson: lunedì termina il reclutamento 50-50 nella PSNI

Il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord, Owen Paterson, ha annunciato che la politica di assunzione del 50-50 imposta alla PSNI terminerà lunedì prossimo

Il Segretario di Stato Owen Paterson ha affermato che 10 anni dopo l’introduzione della regola del 50-50 -secondo cui per ogni protestante assunto nella PSNI doveva essere arruolato anche un cattolico – quasi il 30% degli agenti di polizia nordirlandese hanno un background cattolico.

Nel 1999, i cattolici costituivano l’8,3% della forza di polizia, allora denominata RUC.

In un comunicato rilasciato questo pomeriggio, Paterson ha detto che la composizione della PSNI adesso sarà lasciata al suo “sviluppo naturale”.

Il Segretario di Stato si augura di vedere crescere nel tempo la rappresentanza cattolica all’interno del Police Service of Northern Ireland.

PSNI’s 50-50 recruitment policy to end

The Northern Ireland Secretary of State, Owen Paterson, has said the policy of 50-50 recruitment to the PSNI will end next Monday.

Mr Paterson said that ten years after the provisions were introduced, almost 30% of police officers serving in Northern Ireland were now from a Catholic background.

In 1999, Catholics only made up 8.3% of the police force, which was then the RUC.

In a statement this afternoon, Mr Paterson said the composition of the PSNI would now be allowed to ‘develop naturally’.

He said he wished to see Catholic representation in Northern Ireland’s police service grow further over time.
