Peadar Heffron “riprende conoscenza”

All’agente Peadar Heffron è stata amputata la gamba destra pochi giorni dopo l’esplosione di una bomba sotto alla sua vettura a Randalstown l’8 gennaio.

Il trentatreenne cattolico è uno specialista di lingua gaelica e capitano della squadra di calcio gaelico della PSNI.

Una portavoce ha riferito che l’uomo resta in condizioni gravi ma stabili.

Heffron è agente di polizia da 10 anni e recentemente si è sposato.

Il giorno dell’attentato si stava recando presso la stazione di polizia di Woodbourne a West Belfast quando, dopo circa 1 miglio di distanza da casa sua – circa 1,5 km, la bomba è esplosa mentre percorreva Milltown Road.

Un investigatore ha detto di non escludere un collegamento di un attacco simile, avvenuto contro la partner di un altro agente di polizia in East Belfast.

Injured officer Peadar Heffron ‘regains consciousness’

A police officer who was critically injured by a dissident republican car bomb earlier this month has regained consciousness in hospital.

Constable Peadar Heffron’s right leg was amputated just days after the bomb exploded under his car in Randalstown on 8 January.

The 33-year-old Catholic is an Irish language specialist for the PSNI and is also the captain of its GAA team.

A police spokeswoman said he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Constable Heffron has been a PSNI officer for 10 years and was recently married.

He had been on his way to work at Woodbourne police station in west Belfast and it is believed he had driven about a mile from his home when the bomb exploded on the Milltown Road.

A detective investigating the bombing said they were not ruling out a link to a car bomb attack on a police officer’s partner in east Belfast last year.
