Pietre contro autobus a Belfast

Un autobus scoperto a due piani, con 40 turisti a bordo, è stato oggetto di lancio di pietre oggi pomeriggio a West Belfast.

La PSNI ha riferito che numerosi giovani vestiti con felpe con il cappuccio sono stati visti fuggire dopo l’incidente in Divis Street.

Il proprietario dell’azienda turistica, Ben Allen, ha detto che un finestrino dell’autobus è stato infranto ma nessuno dei 40 passeggeri è stato ferito.

Gli australiani Eunice e Des Cassidy si trovavano a Belfast da una sola ora ed erano sul bus quando è avvenuto l’attacco.

La signora Cassidy ha detto di essere spaventata, “poi siamo saliti a bordo e tutto è andato bene”.

Allen ha descritto l’attacco come una follia e, riportando le voci dell’autista, i ragazzi coinvolti avrebbero un’età tra i 13 ed i 18 anni.

Negli ultimi anni i giri turistici a Belfast a bordo di autobus scoperti sono diventati molto popolari ed i turisti solitamente visitano così i murales repubblicani e lealisti, così come i cantieri di Harland and Wolff e il complesso di Stormont.

Tourist bus stoned in Belfast

An open top sightseeing bus, with 40 tourists on board, was stoned in West Belfast this afternoon.

The PSNI said a number of youths wearing hooded tops were seen running away after the incident in Divis Street.

The tour company owner, Ben Allen, said one of the bus windows was smashed but that none of the 40 customers was injured.

Australians Eunice and Des Cassidy had only been in Belfast for an hour and were on the bus when the attack took place.

Mrs Cassidy said she was scared but, ‘then we went on and everything was OK’.

Mr Allen described the attack as madness and said the driver of the bus thought youths aged from 13 to 18 were involved.

In recent years open top bus tours have become popular in Belfast and tourists usually visit republican and loyalist murals, as well as the Harland and Wolff shipyard and Stormont.
