L’ordigno è detonato nella zona di Ardaveen a Bessbrook, Contea di Armagh, poco prima di mezzanotte.
Un portavoce della PSNI ha affermato che sulla scena sono intervenuti gli artificieri dell’esercito.
La pipe bomb è stata lanciata contro un furgone parcheggiato fuori da un’abitazione in Ardaveen Park e ha provocato lievi danni all’automezzo.
L’attacco non dovrebbe essere legato a attività terroristiche.
Un portavoce della polizia afferma che gli investigatori stanno cercando di stabilire un movente per l’accaduto e chiedono ad eventuali testimoni di farsi avanti.
Secondo il parlamentare SDLP Dominic Bradley è una fortuna che nessuno sia rimasto ferito.
“Condanno i responsabili dell’esplosione di questa pipe bomb ad Ardaveen, una tranquilla zona residenziale, la scorsa notte. Facendo questo hanno mostrato disprezzo per la vita e, se le circostanze fossero state differenti, qualcuno avrebbe potuto essere ucciso o gravemente ferito da questo ordigno.
“Non so cosa questa gente speri di ottenere. L’uso della violenza è sbagliata a prescindere dal contesto”.

Bomb thrown at van outside Co Armagh home
The device was detonated in the Ardaveen area of Bessbrook, Co Armagh, just before midnight.
There were no reports of any injuries.
A spokesman for the PSNI said Army technical experts had been called to the scene.
It is understood the pipe bomb was thrown at a van parked outside a house in Ardaveen Park and caused minor damage to the vehicle.
A forensic examination has been carried out.
The attack is not believed to be terrorist-related.
A PSNI spokesman said detectives were working to establish a motive and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley said it was fortunate no-one was injured.
“I condemn those responsible for the detonation of this pipe bomb at Ardaveen, a quiet residential area, last night. In doing this they have shown scant disregard for life and, had the circumstances been different, someone could have been killed or seriously injured by this device.
“I don’t know what these people hope to achieve. The use of violence is wrong regardless of the context.”
