L’ordigno è stato scoperto durante un allarme di sicurezza nei pressi della stazione PSNI di Brownlow. La zona intorno alla stazione e a un centro comunitario sono state cordonate per diverse ore, mentre gli esperti artificieri dell’esercito hanno esaminato la scena.
La stazione PSNI di Brownlow non è aperta al pubblico, ma la pattuglia di polizia di quartiere attualmente opera da lì.
La parlamentare dell’UUP Jo-Anne Dobson ha affermato che i responsabili “sono riusciti solo a mettere in pericolo delle vite umane, causando un disagio enorme” a chi è rimasto coinvolti nell’operazione di sicurezza.
Conrad Dixon, consigliere dell’Alliance Party, ha detto che la comunità vuol vedere la fine di questi attacchi contro la polizia.
Alcune abitazioni sono state evacuate e diverse strade sono state chiuse a Belfast ieri, dopo un altro allarme sicurezza lanciato nella zona di Upper Lisburn Road, che si è rivelato un falso allarme. La polizia ha ricevuto segnalazioni di “oggetti sospetti” avvistati in un locale commerciale nella zona. Nel frattempo, nulla di sospetto è stato trovato in un altro allarme a Queensway, Dunmurry, che ha anche richiesto la chiusura di alcune strade.
La scorsa settimana il gruppo formato da diverse formazioni armate repubblicane, riunite sotto la bandiera dell’IRA, hanno minacciato di intensificare gli attacchi contro le forze di sicurezza e contro gli obiettivi legati all’Inghilterra.
Alert after device is found near PSNI base
The device was discovered during a security alert close to Brownlow station early yesterday. The area around the station and a community centre were sealed off for several hours while Army bomb experts examined the scene.
Brownlow PSNI station is not open to the public but the local neighbourhood police team currently operates from there.
UUP MLA Jo-Anne Dobson said those who planted the pipe bomb “succeeded only in endangering human life and causing a huge inconvenience” to anyone caught up in the security alert.
Alliance councillor for the area Conrad Dixon said that the local community want an end to these types of attacks on police.
A number of homes also had to be evacuated and several roads closed in Belfast yesterday following a security alert in the Upper Lisburn Road area which turned out to be a hoax . Police received reports of “suspicious objects” at a commercial premises in the area. Meanwhile, nothing suspicious was found at a second alert at Queensway, Dunmurry, which also prompted road closures.
Last week a group claiming to be a coalition of dissident republican paramilitary groups calling themselves the IRA, threatened to intensify attacks on security forces and other British-related targets.
