Pipe bomb esplode sotto vettura a West Belfast

La polizia ha confermato che l’esplosione avvenuta sotto ad un’autovettura a West Belfast è stata provocata da una pipe bomb

Il veicolo, parcheggiato in St James Road a West Belfast, è stato gravemente danneggiato nell’incidente avvenuto poco dopo la mezzanotte di mercoledì.

Gli artificieri dell’esercito britannico hanno esaminato la scena e portato via i resti dell’ordigno insieme alla vettura per condurre ulteriori esami.

St James Road è stata riaperta e i residenti hanno potuto tornare alle loro abitazioni, evacuate durante l’intervento degli artificieri.

“Voglio ringraziare i residenti per la pazienza mostrata durante l’operazione e chiedo a chiunque abbia osservato qualsiasi attività sospette nella zona di contattare gli investigatori a Musgrave.

“Le informazioni possono anche essere fornite in maniera anonima trimite Crimestoppers“.

Il parlamentare dello Sinn Féin Paul Maskey ha condannato i responsabili e ha chiesto di permettere ai residenti “di vivere le loro vite in pace”.

Il politico ha aggiunto: “Per fortuna nessuno è rimasto ferito in questo attacco.

“Questo incidente ha portato solo disagio e deve essere condannato”.

Paul Maskey ha elogiato il gruppo comunitario St James’s Forum per aver aperto i loro locali, permettendo l’ingresso ai residenti.

Under-car explosion caused by pipe bomb

Police have confirmed an under-car explosion in west Belfast was caused by a pipe bomb.

The parked vehicle was extensively damaged in the incident which happened at St James’s Road just after midnight on Wednesday.

Army bomb experts examined the scene and have taken remnants of the device as well as the car away for further forensic examination.

St James’s Road has reopened and residents have been allowed to return to their homes which were evacuated during the alert.

PSNI Inspector James Murphy commented: “Thankfully no-one was injured in this incident but severe disruption has been caused in the area.

“I would like to thank the residents for their patience whilst the operation was ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101.

“Information can also be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Local MP Paul Maskey has condemned those responsible for the incident and urged them to stop and let people in the area “get on with their lives in peace.”

The Sinn Féin politician added: “Thankfully no one has been injured in this attack.

“This incident has brought nothing but disruption to the local area and must be condemned.”

He commended local community group St James’s Forum for opening up their premises to accommodate residents.
