Una pipe bomb è esplosa nella casa di un consigliere DUP ad Antrim nelle prime ore di venerdì mattina
Smyth è candidato alle prossime elezioni di maggio.
Un piccolo fuoco è scoppiato nella stanza ma è stato spento velocemente da Smyth, che non è rimasto ferito nell’attacco.
“Era seduto in salotto e ho udito rumore di vetri infranti e subito un forte scoppio come di un fuoco d’artificio che esplodeva”, racconta Smyth.
“Sono andato nell’ingresso e ho visto del fumo uscire dalla mia camera da letto.
“Entrato nella stanza da letto ho visto il fuoco e l’ho spento, notando una pipe bomb sul mio letto.
“Sono profondamente sconvolto; non riesco a comprendere perché mi hanno attaccato, in quanto ho lavorato duro per la comunità locale.
“L’unica cosa che posso pensare è alla mia candidatura alle elezioni unita alla mia posizione contro le droghe”.

Bomb explodes at DUP councillor’s home
A pipebomb exploded at the house of a DUP councillor in Antrim in the early hours of Friday morning.
Mr Smyth is running as a candidate in the upcoming May election.
A small fire broke out but was quickly extinguished by Mr Smyth who escaped uninjured.
“I was sitting in the living room and I heard a large crash and a smash of my windows breaking and then a large bang like a firework going off”, Mr Smith said.
“I went to my hall where I seen smoke bellowing from my bedroom.
“I went into my bedroom and there was a fire and I put it out and noticed a pipebomb device on the bed.
“I was in utter shock; I couldn’t understand why I had been targeted, because I have worked so hard for the local community.
“The only thing I can think of is I am a candidate in the local election plus because of my stance on drugs.”
Police want anyone who may have information about the attack to contact them.
