La polizia punta il dito contro i repubblicani per le pipe bomb ritrovate, che hanno costretto molte persone a lasciare la propria abitazione
A West Belfast l’ordigno si trovava in Norfolk Parade.
L’allarme è stato lanciato dopo il ritrovamento di un oggetto sospetto. Alcuni residenti hanno dovuto lasciare le abitazioni mentre gli artificieri esaminavano l’ordigno.
Ad Armagh un oggetto sospetto è stato segnalato nella zona di Alexander Avenue verso le 5 della mattina di sabato.
Nel corso dell’allerta, Alexander Drive e Alexander Aveue sono state chiuse al traffico.
I residenti evacuati hanno trovato riparo al centro Orchard.
Gli artificieri intervenuti nell’area hanno constatato che l’ordigno era in grado di esplodere.
L’ispettore capo Davy Beck ha detto che la pipe bomb “aveva il potenziale per uccidere o mutilare chi si fosse trovato nei pressi”.
Ha quindi aggiunto: “Ritengo che la stragrande maggioranza della comunità non voglia questo genere di attività pericolose nella propria area.
“Un certo numero di abitazione sono state evacuate per oltre 3 ore questa mattina mentre gli artificieri dell’esercito si sono presi cura dell’oggetto. Voglio ringraziare la comunità per l’assistenza e la comprensione mostrata durante l’operazione”.
Il consigliere dello Sinn Féin Caoimhin Mac Giolla Mhin ha detto che chi ha lasciato l’ordigno in Norfolk Parade è stato avventato e non ha sostegno.
“Questa è una via molto trafficata. Ci vivono famiglie e persone anziane, molte delle quali hanno dovuto lasciare la casa per la durata della notte” ha affermato.
“Chiunque avrebbe potuto trovare questo ordigno e rimanere ferito o peggio, se fosse esploso”.

BOMBS FOUND IN WEST BELFAST AND ARMAGH
POLICE have condemned dissident republicans for leaving pipe bombs devices which forced families out of their homes.
In west Belfast, a pipe bomb device was defused at Norfolk Parade in west Belfast.
The alert was sparked after a suspicious object was found and a number of residents had to leave their homes while Army technical officers examined it.
In Armagh, a suspicious object was found in the Alexander Avenue area of Armagh city around 5 am on Saturday morning.
As a result, Alexander Drive and Alexander Avenue were closed to traffic.
Residents evacuated from their homes were looked after in Orchard Leisure Centre.
Army technical officers were been tasked to the scene and said it was a viable device.
Chief Inspector Davy Beck said bomb “had the potential to kill or maim anyone who was near it”.
He added: “I believe the vast majority of the community here do not want this dangerous activity in their area.
“A number of homes had to be evacuated for over three hours this morning while ATO (Army technical officers) attended the object and I would like to thank the local community for their assistance and understanding throughout the operation.”
Sinn Fein councillor Caoimhin Mac Giolla Mhin said those who had left the device in Norfolk Parade were reckless and had no support.
“This is a busy street with many families and elderly people living here, many of whom had to leave their homes for the duration of the night,” he said.
“Anyone could have found this device or been injured or worse had it gone off.”
