‘Dissident guns’ found in Ardoyne alert
Guns thought to be linked to dissident republican activity have been uncovered during a security alert in north Belfast.
A suspicious package was reported in the Etna Drive area of Ardoyne on Tuesday afternoon.
The area was sealed off and residents evacuate from their homes while army bomb experts examined package.
A number of suspected firearms have been taken away for further examination.
Commenting on the operation Superintendent Mark Purdon said: “The actions of police today have undoubtedly thwarted attempts of these criminals to inflict death injury and misery on the community in north Belfast.”
The alert has ended and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
