Pól Brennan estradato dagli USA entro questa settimana

Un uomo di Belfast che fuggì dalla prigione di massima sicurezza di Maze nel Nord Irlanda 26 anni fa, dovrebbe venire deportato dagli Stati Uniti fino alla Repubblica d’Irlanda nel corso della settimana.

Pól Brennan, 56 anni, evase dalla prigione con altri 38 prigionieri nel settembre 1983.

Si trasferì negli Stati Uniti, dove iniziò una nuova vita, si sposò e divenne un imigrato regolare.

Brennan venne fermato ad un posto di blocco di confine nel Texas nel gennaio 2008, a causa di un permesso di lavoro scaduto.

Chiese un nuovo permesso, ma un giudice ha ordinato il suo trasferimento lo scorso novembre e un recente appello all’Homeland Security Secretary (Segretario per la Sicurezza Interna) Janet Napolitano, non ha avuto successo.

Brennan ha affermato che la sua deportazione causerà “gravi affanni” a sua moglie.

Maze escapee to be deported from US this week

A Belfast man who escaped from the top-security Maze Prison in the North 26 years ago is expected to be deported from the US to the Republic later this week.

Fifty-six-year-old Pól Brennan escaped from the prison with 38 others in September 1983.

He made his way to the US, where he began a new life, got married and became a legal immigrant.

Mr Brennan was detained at a border checkpoint in Texas in January 2008 in relation to a lapsed work permit.

He had applied for a new permit, but a judge ordered his deportation last November and a recent appeal to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was unsuccessful.

Brennan had argued that his deportation would cause “extreme hardship” to his US wife.
