La PSNI è stata accusata di comportamento provocatorio dopo che alcuni agenti si sono presentati ad una parata repubblicana indossando i papaveri commemorativi.
I presenti all’evento di sabato a West Belfast hanno detto che è stato “altamente insensibile e offensivo” da parte degli agenti indossare tale emblema.
Hanno aggiunto che la comunità ha “sofferto così tanto per mano dell’esercito britannico”.
I poliziotti stavano controllando una manifestazione organizzata da éirígí fuori dalla caserma di Grosvenor Road, in protesta con “le molestie della PSNI e gli aggressivi tentativi dell’MI5” di reclutare la gente della zona.
Mark Thompson di Relatives for Justice ritiene che possano essere state infrante le linee guida della Commissione per l’Uguaglianza.
Ha aggiunto: “Matt Baggott ci ha detto che abbiamo una forza di polizia imparziale. Se così fosse, deve fare i passi necessari per neutralizzare e depoliticizzare la sua forza”. Un portavoce della polizia afferma che le mostra degli emblemi è regolata dalla politica per le Pari Opportunità della PSNI.
Chiunque pensa possa essere stata infranta, deve rivolgersi al Police Ombudsman. Lo stesso ufficio che è attualmente sotto indagine per imparzialità.

Police Wear Poppies At Republican Rally

The PSNI have been accused of provocative behaviour after some officers policed a republican parade wearing poppies.
Protesters at the event in West Belfast on Saturday said it was “highly insensitive and offensive” that officers had sported the emblem.
They added the community had “suffered so much at the hands of the British Army”.
The officers were policing a demonstration organised by éirígí outside Grosvenor Road barracks in protest at the alleged “PSNI harassment and aggressive attempts by MI5” to recruit local people.
Mark Thompson of Relatives for Justice said he believed the display may be in breach of Equality Commission guidelines.
He added: “Matt Baggott tells us we have an impartial police force. If that’s so, he needs to take steps to neutralise and depoliticise his force.” A police spokesman said the display of emblems was covered by PSNI equal opportunities policy.
Anyone believing it had been broken should contact the Police Ombudsman. The same office which is currently under investigation for impartiality.
