Ecco il comunicato rilasciato dai prigionieri repubblicani allineati al Republican Network for Unity/Cogus:
Abbiamo assistito, in pratica dal giorno seguente all’accordo, alla lenta erosione e all’interpretazione dell’accordo da parte della POA (Prison Officers Association – Associazione delle guardie penitenziarie).
Il NIPS ha utilizzato l’accordo per indebolire i prigionieri di guerra e per metterli gli uni contro gli altri per danneggiare la lotta carceraria e, alla fine, la lotta più ampia repubblicana.
Abbiamo avvertito tutti quanti sulle conseguenze di giocare con l’accordo e con i prigionieri di guerra repubblicani!
I prigionieri di guerra di Cogus hanno dato tempo all’accordo, nonostante le nostre riserve e le preoccupazioni dei nostri rappresentanti all’esterno. Abbiamo fatto in modo di non prendere alcuna decisione istintiva e non abbiamo dato occasione a LPOA e NIPS per dire che i prigionieri di guerra repubblicani non hanno manteuto quanto scritto sull’accordo.
Martedì 28 giugno 2011 abbiamo fatto sapere ai nostri rappresentanti di aver aspettato abbastanza e di informare il Joint Facilitation Group (JFG – coloro che hanno facilitato l’accordo del 2010) che credevamo che l’accordo del 12 agosto avrebbe dovuto essere attuato pienamente entro il 1° luglio 2011, ben 11 mesi dopo la firma! Abbiamo informato i JFG ed i nostri rappresentanti all’esterno che il 1° luglio avremmo barricato l’ingresso della mensa e appiccato il fuoco alla barricata stessa. Avremmo anche distrutto le nostre celle ed iniziato la “dirty protest”.
I prigionieri di guerra repubblicani non chiedono alcuna concessione, come allude invece il DUP, chiediamo la piena attuazione di un accordo che abbiamo firmato tutti e la fine delle brutali perquisizioni degradanti (strip search). Questa settimana abbiamo presentato una proposta per mettere fine alla necessità di tali perquisizioni, abbiamo offerto anche un modo possibile per garantire un’ala armonica per TUTTI i prigionieri di guerra e per il personale che lavora nella Roe House. Venerdì queste opzioni sono state respinte tutte, nonostante la buona volontà dei prigionieri di guerra e delle persone all’esterno.
I prigionieri di guerra repubblicana fanno appello al Ministero di Giustizia e al NIPS di togliere la testa dalla sabbia e di smettere di usare atteggiamenti e modi creativi per risolvere la controversia nella prigione e per appoggiare i secondini, implementando pienamente l’accordo e mettedo alla fine alle strip search entro il 2011.
Infine chiediamo a tutti di seguire i prigionieri che hanno bisogno di tutto il vostro sostegno per far partire questo accordo.

Maghaberry POWs: we want the full implementation of the agreement
The following is a statement from Republican Network for Unity/Cogus aligned pows sent to their representative group outside!
We watched from almost the following day of the agreement the slow erosion and POA interpretation of the agreement being implemented.
The NIPS, DOJ and British Government has used the agreement to undermine the pows and to set them on a path against each other to damage the prison struggle and ultimately the wider republican struggle.
We warned all of the above about the consequences of playing with the agreement and republican pows!
The Cogus POWs’ gave the agreement time, despite our reservations and our reps outside concerns. We ensured that we didn’t make any knee-jerk decisions and didn’t give the LPOA and NIPS any opportunity to say that republican pows didn’t live up too their side of the bargain in the agreement.
On Tuesday 28/06/11 we passed information to our reps that we had had enough of waiting and for our reps to inform the JFG,that we believed that the 12th August agreement should have been fully implemented by the 1st July 2011, a full 11 months after the agreement! We informed the JFG and our reps outside that on the 1st July we would barricade the entrance to the canteen and set fire to the barricade. We would also will wreck our cells and commence a “dirty protest”.
The republican POWs’ aren’t asking for any concessions, as alluded to by the DUP, we are asking for an agreement that we all signed up too be implemented in Full and for the ending of brutal degrading strip-searches. We have put forward a proposal this week that would end the need for such strip-searches to take place, we also offered possible ways to ensure a harmonious wing for ALL pows and for the staff working in Roe House, on Friday these options were finally rejected despite goodwill by pows and others outside.
The republican pows call on the DOJ and the NIPS to take their heads out of the sand and to stop posturing and to use imaginative ways to resolve the prison dispute and to stand up to the LPOA and to FULLY IMPLEMENT the agreement and to end strip-searching in 2011.
Finally we call on everyone to get behind the prisoners who will need all of your support to push this agreement over the line.
