Pressing MI5 su repubblicano di Derry

Informer claim by ex-32CSM man

SMS | Text messageA Derry republican claims MI5 is increasing its efforts to get him to provide information on other republicans.
The man, who did not wish to be named, was until recently a prominent member of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement, but now says he is no longer involved with any grouping.

He claims that an MI5 agent approached him at an airport in Glasgow last year and asked him to work for the intelligence agency.

He also claims the same agent, a woman who identified herself as ‘Chrissie,’ sent him a text message at the weekend.

The man believes the text, which the ‘Journal’ has seen, makes a reference to the Real IRA murder of Kieran Doherty, who, prior to his death, repeatedly claimed he was being harassed by MI5.

The text sent to the Derry man at the weekend reads: “It’s terrible everything that happened. I can help if that’s what you want and in more ways than you can think – Chrissie.”

The local republican says he replied to the message asking who it was from and received a further message which said it was from “the brunette you met in Glasgow.”

The man says he made no other contact with the telephone number other than the text in which he asked who sent the original message.

Thirty-one years-old Kieran Doherty was shot dead by the Real IRA in February after claiming that MI5 had repeatedly tried to recruit him as an informer.

The Real IRA claimed Mr Doherty was involved in the drugs trade – a claim denied by his family.
