Prigioniero repubblicano aggredito a Maghaberry

Un prigioniero repubblicano è stato brutalmente aggredito nella sua cella mercoledì 3 giugno (nel testo originale viene riportato il 9 giugno, NdT). I secondini che eseguivano una perquisizione sono entrati nella sua cella intorno alle 9:00 e hanno cercato di portare via una bottiglia di shampoo insieme ad altri oggetti. Quando il prigioniero ha chiesto se non gli era più permesso di fare una doccia mentre si trova in carcere è stato duramente picchiato, e le sue mani e le gambe legate. E’ stato poi trascinato nel blocco punitivo e tenutò là per alcune ore.

Questo fatto segue i rapporti sull’intensificazione della sicurezza a Maghaberry negli ultimi due mesi.

Il Republican Sinn Fein ha saputo che l’uomo, duramente contuso al termine di questa terribile esperienza, è stato portato davanti al Direttore della prigione di Maghaberry per rispondere di aggressione (verso i secondini, NdT).

La RUC ed i secondini hanno una lunga storia nella Sei Contee di assalti contro le persone, per poi accusare i feriti di aggressione. Un portavoce per il Republican Sinn Fein ha chiesto se “magari potrebbero evitare di ferirsi se non usassero i repubblicani come sacco per il pugilato?

“La brutalità contro i prigionieri repubblicani non è una cosa del passato. Continua inalterata nella prigione di Maghaberry”, ha aggiunto.

Republican PoW assaulted in Magheerry Gaol

A Republican prisoner has been seriously assaulted in his cell in Maghaberry Gaol on Wednesday, 9th June. Screws conducting a cell-search entered his cell at around 9a.m. and sought to take a bottle of shampoo along with other items. When the prisoner enquired whether he was no longer entitled to shower whilst in gaol he was badly beaten, and his hands and legs were bound. He was then brought to the punishment block and kept there for a number of hours.

This follows reports that security has been tightened in Maghaberry over the course of the past two months.

Republican Sinn Féin have also learnt that the man, who is badly bruised as a result of his ordeal, is to be charged before the Governor of Maghaberry Gaol in the morning with assault.

The RUC and the screws have a long history within the Six Counties of assaulting people, and subsequently charging the injured party with assault. A spokesman for RSF asked whether “perhaps they could avoid injury to themselves if they weren’t using Republicans as punch-bags?”

“Brutality against Republican prisoners is not a thing of the past. It continues unabated in Maghaberry Gaol,” he added.
