La scorsa settimana la Commissione sollevò critiche per aver impedito alla Ligoniel True Blues LOL 1932 e alla Earl of Erne LOL 647 di passare davanti agli “Ardoyne Shops”, scena di feroci disordini nel passato.
Non potranno percorrere i circa 650 metri di strada tra l’incrocio di Woodwale Park e Woodwale Road e l’incrocio di Hesketh Road – Crumlin Road durante il loro Tour del Nord di venerdì.
Winston Irvine, del North and West Belfast Parades and Cultural Forum, afferma che la decisione ha provocato “vasto risentimento” e accusa la Commissione di minare il processo di mediazione.
“Ancora una volta, la Commissione Parate ha mostrato una completa mancanza di rispetto, e disprezzo per la cultura protestante, e c’è un profondo senso di oltraggio e vasto risentimento”, ha affermato.
“Non è troppo tardi, le logge possono ancora cercare una revisione (della decisione). So che le due logge avranno una serie di incontri nei prossimi giorni, e se ci sarà qualche prova nuova, allora la Commissione sarà tenuta a modificare la decisione presa”.
Prima della decisione della scorsa settimana, il gruppo teneva degli incontri con la Crumlin Ardoyne Residents Association (CARA) per trovare una soluzione. La Commissione Parate ha detto di essere in contatto con entrambe le parti, ma nessun accordo era stato trovato quindi ha dovuto imporre delle restrizioni.
Irvine dice che gli orangisti sono ancora furiosi perché è emerso che la Commissione Parate ha incontrato un gruppo di residenti ancora “più oltranzista” – il Greater Ardoyne Residents’ Collective (GARC).
“E’ molto difficile vedere come possiamo andare avanti da qui – ci siamo incontrati con il gruppo riconosciuto di CARA sin da marzo, e ora abbiamo saputo che la Commissione si è incontrata con quest’altro gruppo, il GARC. Ha totalmente messo in pericolo il processo, e penso che la Commissione abia molte domande cui rispondere”, ha aggiunto.
Un portavoce della Commissione Parate ha confermato l’icontro con i rappresentanti del GARC, ma ha evidenziato che il gruppo di residenti “non è parte del processo”.
“Abbiamo avuto un incontro con il GARC, ma ha avuto luogo dopo aver preso la decisione, loro non sono parte del processo.
“La Commissione riconosce CARA come organismo ufficiale di rappresentanza dei residenti”.
In effetti, una risoluzione appare ancora più remota, dopo che un sito web repubblicano ha citato un membro della GARC che ha detto: “Gli attuali colloqui di CARA con i lealisti non avvengono a nome di tutti i residenti di Greater Ardoyne… questi colloqui non sono in corso per porre fine ai problemi che circondano la marcia, perché la gente semplicemente non sa di cosa si sta parlando o concordando a suo nome”.

Lodges might appeal ban on Ardoyne route
Last week, the commission sparked outrage when it banned Ligoniel True Blues LOL 1932 and Earl of Erne LOL 647 from passing the Ardoyne shops, the scene of fierce rioting in the past.
They are barred from using a half-mile stretch of road between the junction of Woodvale Parade and Woodvale Road and the Hesketh Road-Crumlin Road junction as a route for a feeder parade for the Tour of the North on Friday.
Winston Irvine, from the North and West Belfast Parades and Cultural Forum, said the decision had caused “widespread anger” and accused the commission of undermining the mediatory process.
“Once again, the Parades Commission has shown a complete lack of respect, and a contempt for the Protestant culture, and there is a deep sense of outrage and widespread anger,” he said.
“It is not too late, the lodges could still seek a review. I understand that the two lodges will have a series of meetings over the next few days, and if there is some new evidence, then the commission will be duty-bound to review the decision which they have made.”
Prior to last week’s decision, the group had been in talks with the Cultural Forum Crumlin Ardoyne Residents’ Association [CARA] to find a resolution. The Parades Commission ruling said it had been in dialogue with both sides, but no agreement had been reached and it had imposed the restrictions.
Mr Irvine said marchers had been further angered after it emerged that the Parades Commission had met with another “more hardline” residents’ group – the Greater Ardoyne Residents’ Collective (GARC).
“It is very difficult to see how we can go forward from this – we had been meeting with the recognised group CARA since March, and now we have heard that the commission has met with the this other group, GARC. It has totally undermined the process, and I think the commission has a number of questions to answer,” he added.
A spokesperson for the Parades Commission confirmed it had met with representatives from GARC, but stressed that residents’ group was “not part of the process”.
“We held a meeting with GARC, but this meeting took place after the decision was made, they were not part of the process.
“The commission recognises CARA as the official body representing residents.”
Indeed, a resolution appears to be even more remote after a republican website quoted a member of GARC who said: “The current CARA talks with loyalists are not on behalf of all the residents of greater Ardoyne… these talks are not going to bring an end to trouble surrounding the march because people simply don’t know what is being discussed or agreed in their name.”
