“L’Orange Order, la nostra unica cultura di marce e bande, la (battaglia della) Somme e la lingua Ulster Scots saranno le caratteristiche predominanti di una zona arricchita da murales, musei, parate regolari ed eventi”, suggerisce il manifesto.
Il PUP, guidato da Brian Ervine, appoggia anche il mantenimento dell’intera quota di 108 parlamentari a Stormont.
Alcuni partiti hanno suggerito una riduzione del numero, ma il PUP ritiene che “un’Assemblea con soli due o tre piccoli partiti non sarebbe nel migliore interesse della popolazione dell’Irlanda del Nord”.
Il Progressive Unionist Party sta presentando il minor numero di candidati per l’Assemblea, con il solo leader Brian Ervine alla conquista del seggio nella circoscrizione di East Belfast.

PUP calls for ‘Orange quarter’
The Progressive Unionist Party has called for the creation of an Orange quarter in Belfast, suggesting the Shankill Road as a possible location.
“The Orange Order, our unique marching band culture, the Somme and the Ulster Scots language would feature prominently in an area rich with wall murals, museums and regular parades and events,” the manifesto suggests.
The PUP, led by Brian Ervine, has also backed the retention of Stormont’s full quota of 108 MLAs.
Some parties have suggested the number should be reduced, by the PUP believes “an Assembly with only two or three smaller parties would not be in the best interests of the people of Northern Ireland”.
The Progressive Unionists are standing the smallest number of candidates in the Assembly election, with just leader Brian Ervine contesting a seat in the East Belfast constituency.
