L’assemblea di Stormont deve valutare una proposta che richiede al Northern Ireland Office (NIO) di elargire fondi per la costruzione di un museo per oorare la Royal Ulster Constabulary
La RUC George Cross Foundation subisce pressioni da alcuni anni per appoggiare la costruzione di un museo accanto al suo giardino della memoria nel quartiere generale della PSNI.
La fondazione ha richiesto investimenti all’Heritage Lottery Fund e al NIO.
Jim McDonald, amministratore della fondazione, ha detto che il museo conserverebbe una “moltitudine di storie” riguardante la RUC.
“Il giardino racconta una particolare storia, il museo spiegherebbe molteplici storie e le incastonerebbe nel contesto di quel periodo perché siamo fortunati ad avere un’abbondante serbatoio di materiale”, ha riferito.
“Abbiamo recentemente acquisito una medaglia George che fu assegnata ad un sergente negli anni Cinquanta per la sua difesa di Rosslea”.

Call for museum ‘to honour RUC’
The assembly is to debate a proposal calling on the Northern Ireland Office to help fund a museum to honour the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
The RUC George Cross Foundation has been lobbying for several years to build a museum beside its commemoration garden at PSNI headquarters.
The foundation has applied for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and NIO.
Jim McDonald, a trustee of the foundation, said the museum would have a “variety of stories” about the RUC.
“The garden tells one particular story, the museum will tell a variety of stories and tell it in the context of that period because we are fortunate in the historical society to have a large reservoir of material,” he said.
“We recently bought a George medal which was awarded to a sergeant in the 1950s for his defence of Rosslea.”
