Tre veicoli sono stati sequestrati e bottiglie molotov sono state lanciate contro la polizia dopo la parata degli Apprentice Boys
Un’automobile è stata data alle fiamme in Fahan Street ed un furgone è stato dirottato in Lecky Road.
Bombe molotov sono state lanciate contro il Memorial Hall. Una pipe bomb lanciata contro la polizia è esplosa al Free Derry Corner.
La polizia ha lanciato un avvertimento a tutti gli automobilisti, soprattutto alla guida di veicoli commerciali, di evitare queste aree e rimanere vigili.
Circa 12.500 persone si sono recate in città per la sfilata annuale degli Apprentice Boys.
Centoquaranta bande musicali hanno marciato attraverso il centro della città, tra strette misure di sicurezza. La sfilata è stata il culmine del Maiden City Festival.
Per tutta la giornata i repubblicani hanno inscenato proteste contro la manifestazione dell’Ordine Lealista. Piccoli disordini sono scoppiati in Shipquay Street quando un certo numero di agenti di polizia sono stati spinti e presi a calci.
All’inizio della giornata era stato attaccato un altro furgone a Madamsbank Road, nell’area di Shantallow.
Quattro uomini mascherati hanno lanciato bombe molotov contro il furgone postale e poi sono corsi via. I pompieri hanno provveduto a spegnere l’incendio.
La polizia ha ricevuto segnalazioni di altri tentati sequestri di veicoli a Derry e hanno invitato gli automobilisti ad essere vigili.
Secondo la polizia, già venerdì sera era stato lanciato un attacco contro il Memorial Hall. Decine di bombe molotov sono state gettate dal Bogside verso l’edificio.
La prima delle sfilate della giornata ha avuto luogo sabato mattina e si è svolta senza incidenti. Gli Apprentice Boys locali hanno completato il giro delle mura cittadine in vista del corteo principale.
Parlando prima dei disordini, il Governatore degli Apprentice Boys, Jim Brownlee, sperava che le proteste pianificate dai repubblicani non avrebbero rovinato la giornata.
“Rispettiamo il diritto di protestare e speriamo che queste proteste siano pacifiche, e speriamo che i due eventi, noi – con la nostra parata – e chi protesta, possano passare tranquillamente e tutti possono andare avanti con i propri affari”, aveva affermato.
Nel frattempo, una parata contenziosa è passata senza incidenti dall’interfaccia di Ardoyne, North Belfast, nella mattinata di sabato.
Alcuni manifestanti repubblicani reggevano cartelli di contestazione mentre gli Apprentice Boys superavano gli Ardoyne Shops tra rigide misure di sicurezza.

Vehicles hijacked Apprentice Boys’ parade
Three vehicles have been hijacked and petrol bombs have been thrown at police in Londonderry after the city’s annual Apprentice Boys’ Parade.
A car was set alight in Fahan Street and a van was hijacked on Lecky Road.
Petrol bombs were thrown at the Memorial Hall. A pipe bomb thrown at police exploded at Free Derry Corner.
The police have issued a warning to drivers, especially of commercial vehicles, to avoid these areas and remain vigilant.
About 12,500 people travelled to the city for the annual Apprentice Boys’ parade.
One hundred-and-forty bands marched through the city centre, amid tight security. The parade was the culmination of this year’s week-long Maiden City Festival.
Dissident republicans staged protests against the loyal order demonstration throughout the day. Minor disorder broke out on Shipquay Street when a number of police officers were pushed and kicked.
Earlier in the day another van was attacked on Madamsbank Road in the Shantallow area of the city.
Four masked men threw petrol bombs into the post office van and ran off. The blaze was put out by firefighters.
Police have received reports of other attempted hijackings in Derry and have urged motorists to be vigilant.
The trouble followed an attack on the the Apprentice Boys’ Memorial Hall on Friday night. Several dozen petrol bombs were thrown in the direction of the building from the Bogside, according to police.
The first of the day’s parades took place on Saturday morning without incident. Local Apprentice Boys completed a circuit of the city’s walls ahead of the main parade.
Speaking before the trouble the Governor of the Apprentice Boys, Jim Brownlee, said he hoped the protests planned by republicans would not disrupt the day.
“We respect that right to protest and we hope those protests are peaceful, and we hope the two events, both ourselves – in terms of the parade – and those protests, can pass off peacefully and everybody can get on with their business,” he said.
Meanwhile, a contentious feeder parade passed off without incident in north Belfast on Saturday morning.
A number of protesters held placards as the Apprentice Boys passed the Ardoyne shops amid tight security.
