Protesta lealista al negozio Asda di Belfast

Circa 100 persone hanno organizzato una protesta all’esterno di un supermercato a North Belfast per il licenziamento di un dipendente

Un gruppo si è radunato fuori dal negozio Asda di Shore Road per la seconda volta in due giorni.

I manifestanti hanno affermato che l’uomo è stato licenziato per una “osservazione usa e getta” che coinvolgevAa la canzone lealista, The Sash.

Una portavoce di Asda ha riferito di non poter fare commenti sui singoli casi. Ha detto che il supermercato opera un processo formale, incluso il diritto di ricorso.

Uno dei contestatori ha detto che l’uomo era stato licenziato dopo aver detto ad alcune persone intente a suonare nel parcheggio del negozio che invece avrebbero dovuto suonare, appunto, The Sash.

The Sash commemora la vittoria di Re William nella Battaglia del Boyne nel 1690 ed è suonata alle parate lealista.

La canzone ha provocato polemiche in passato. I ciritici affermano che contenga sentimenti settari.

Billy Hutchinson, ex membro del Progressive Unionist Party e parlamentare di North Belfast, ha detto che l’uomo è stato licenziato “ingiustamente”.

“E’ una persona benvoluta. Alla gente che va da Asda piace andare alla sua cassa”, ha affermato.

“Essi ( i manifestanti ) stanno cercando di marcare un punto. Non si può licenziare la gente per questo tipo di comportamento. Vogliamo la reintegrazione della persona al suo lavoro”.

100 people stage protest at Asda store in north Belfast

About 100 people have held a protest outside a supermarket in north Belfast over the dismissal of an employee.

A group gathered outside Asda on the Shore Road for the second time in two days.

Protesters claimed that the man was dismissed for a “throwaway remark” involving the loyalist song, The Sash.

A spokesperson for Asda said it did not comment on individual cases. She said the supermarket operated a formal process including a right of appeal.

One of those protesting said that the man had been dismissed after telling some people playing music in the store’s car park that they should play The Sash instead.

The Sash commemorates King William’s victory at Battle of the Boyne in 1690 and is played at loyalist parades.

It has caused controversy in the past, with critics claiming that it contains sectarian sentiment.

Billy Hutchinson, a former Progressive Unionist party member and MLA in north Belfast, said the man was sacked “unfairly”.

“He is a well-liked person, he is a bit of a character. People going to Asda love going to his till,” he said.

“They (the protestors) are trying to make a point. You can’t sack people for this sort of behaviour. We want the person’s job to be reinstated.”
