La polizia sta indagando sulle voci di un presunto attacco eseguito da un gruppo armato repubblicano
La PSNI afferma che l’attacco è avvenuto nella zona di Crannard Gardens a Newry.
Secondo un portavoce della polizia gli spari avrebbero colpito una casa non occupata in un periodo tra domenica e lunedì mattina.
“La lastra esterna di vetro in una finestra con doppi vetri è stata danneggiata durante l’incidente. La polizia sta indagando per stabilire se il danno è stato provocato da colpi di arma da fuoco”, ha concluso il portavoce della PSNI.
Il parlamentare SDLP per Newry e Armagh Dominic Bradley condanna le minacce “che si crede provengano dal Comando di South Down della Continuity IRA e dirette contro una certa parte della comunità”.
Bradley riferisce che le minacce erano state inviate tramite messaggio vocale al suo ufficio elettorale.
“Nessun gruppo ha il diritto di prendere la legge nelle proprie mani e di usare bombe e proiettili – a prescindere dalla gravità dei presunti crimini”, ha detto. Il gruppo ha affermato di aver effettuato un attacco armato e con pipe bomb a Bessbrook e Newry contro una banda coinvolta nello spaccio di eroina.

Police probe claims of gun attack
Police are investigating dissident republican claims that they carried out a gun attack on a house in Newry.
The PSNI said the incident took place in the Crannard Gardens area of the City.
A police spokesman said that damage was caused to an unoccupied house in the area sometime overnight from Sunday to Monday.
“The outer pane of glass in a double glazed window in the property was cracked during the incident. Police are investigating claims that this damage was caused by shots being fired,” police said.
SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Dominic Bradley said of the incident that he was condemning threats “believed to be issued by the South Down Command of Continuity Irish Republican Army against a certain section of the community”.
The MLA said the threats had been sent by recorded voicemail message to his constituency office.
“No group has the right to take the law into their own hands and use bombs and bullets – regardless of the seriousness of the alleged crimes,” he said. The group claimed to have carried out a gun attack in Newry and pipe bomb attacks in Bessbrook and Newry in connection with a gang dealing heroin.
