PSNI vuole chiudere alcune stazioni

Un terzo di tutte le stazioni di polizia in Irlanda del Nord potrebbero chiudere nei prossimi due anni.

Ufficiali di alto grado della PSNI stanno per chiedere al Policing Board di liquidare 26 caserme perché il mantenimento di queste stazioni inutilizzate costa milioni di sterline.

Oltre il 60% delle 108 basi della PSNI in Irlanda del Nord aprono solamente per breve periodi mentre 20 sono da considerare effettivamente chiuse.

Gli unionisti si oppongono alla liquidazione, in particolare per quelle stazioni vicine al confine nella Contea di Fermanagh.

PSNI requests station closures

One third of all police stations in Northern Ireland may close over the next two years.

Senior PSNI officers are to ask the Policing Board to sell off 26 stations because they are wasting millions of pounds on maintaining bases that are not used any more.

Over 60% of the 108 PSNI bases in Northern Ireland only open on a part-time basis, and 20 are considered to be effectively closed.

Unionists are against the sell-off, particularly of bases close to the border in Co Fermanagh.
