Quarta notte di disordini ad Ardoyne. Massiccia presenza della polizia

Gli agenti si sono trasferiti in Brompton Park, dove un folto gruppo di persone si è radunato.

Giovani mascherati lanciano pietre contro la polizia, mentre diverse bottiglie molotov sono state lanciate in precedenza.

Ai disordini si giunge dopo il ritrovamento di una funzionante coffee-jar bomb (ordigno fatto con lattina di caffè) nella zona di Highbury Gardens nel pomeriggio di mercoledì.

La polizia ha detto che le ricerche erano state condotte anche in relazione alle gravi violenze nella zona e una serie di oggetti sono stati portati via per un ulteriore esame.

Problemi sono esplosi presso i negozi Ardoyne, e nelle zone di Twaddell e Brompton, sulla scia di una controversa parata Orange Order avvenuta unedi sera – che è andata avanti nonostante le proteste dei residenti nazionalisti.

Gli Orangisti erano protetti dalla polizia in assetto anti-sommossa, in seguito finita sotto il fuoco delle molotov e di altri oggetti.

Un parlamentare dello Sinn Fein per North Belfast ha accusato i cosiddetti dissidenti repubblicani di mettere la popolazione locale a rischio.

“Durante le notti appena trascorse, i dissidenti repubblicani hanno usato elementi anti-sociali costituiti da gruppi di giovani come copertura per gli attacchi ad Ardoyne, New Lodge e Broadway” ha affermato Caral Ní Chuilín.

“Questo nonostante gli appelli dei residenti locali per la non violenza”.

“La rivolta ha causato danni, angoscia e disservizi per queste comunità. Abbiamo visto residenti presi in ostaggio mentre le loro auto venivano sottratte e bruciate, i muri dei loro giardini divelti per ottenere i mattoni e gravi disagi alla loro libera circolazione dentro e fuori della propria comunità.

“L’ultimo incidente è l’abbandono di un ordigno esplosivo in Highbury Gardens in Ardoyne. Questa (stagione) è quella delle vacanze estive – molti bambini sono fuori della scuola e avrebbero potuto trovare questo ordigno. Le ripercussioni non portano ad interessarsene. ”

Ha poi aggiunto: “L’anno scorso i dissidenti abbandonarono armi in Ardoyne, ritrovate poi da bambini del luogo.

“C’è un problema certamente con l’Ordine di Orange che marcia attraverso le aree nazionaliste di Ardoyne, Moutainview e Dales – ma coloro che rappresentano questi gruppi dissidenti possono dirmi se vale la pena la distruzione di Ardoyne e il pericolo per i suoi residenti?

“I residenti sono certamente contrari a queste marce, ma mi stanno informando che sono ugualmente contrari a queste azioni”.

Minor trouble in Ardoyne after alert

There is a heavy police presence in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast on Wednesday night, following intense riots there over the past two evenings.

Officers have moved into Brompton Park, where a large group of people have been gathering.

Masked youths are throwing stones at police, while several petrol bombs were hurled earlier.

It comes after a viable “coffee-jar” bomb was found in the Highbury Gardens area on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said searches had also been carried out in relation to the serious violence in the area and a number of items have been taken away for further examination.

Trouble broke out at Ardoyne shopfronts, and in the Twaddell and Brompton areas, in the wake of a controversial Orange Order parade on Monday evening – which went ahead despite protests by nationalist residents.

Marchers were shielded by riot police, who came under fire as petrol bombs and other missiles were hurled.

A Sinn Fein MLA for North Belfast has blamed dissidents republicans for putting local people at risk.

“Over the past nights, dissident republicans have used anti-social elements made up of groups of young people as cover for attacks in Ardoyne, the New Lodge and Broadway,” Carál Ní Chuilín said.

“This is despite appeals from local residents for no violence.”

“The rioting has caused damage, distress and disruption to these communities. We have seen residents held hostage as their cars are taken and burnt, their garden walls pulled apart for bricks and major disruption to their free movement in and out of their own community.

“The latest incident is the abandoning of an explosive device in Highbury Gardens in Ardoyne. This is the summer holidays – many children are off school and could have found this device. The repercussions do not bear thinking about.”

She added: “Last year it was the dissidents who abandoned guns in Ardoyne which were found by local children.

“There is an issue certainly of the Orange Order marching through nationalist areas of Ardoyne, Moutainview and the Dales – but can those who represent these dissident groups tell me if this is worth the destruction of Ardoyne and the endangering of its residents?

“The residents are certainly opposed to these marches but they are informing me that they are equally opposed to these actions.”
