La PSNI afferma che almeno quattro blast bomb sono state lanciate contro gli agenti schierati a East Belfast durante la quarta sera consecutiva di violenza in città. Proteste e chiusura di strade stanno avendo luogo anche a Portadown
Questa sera la violenza è divampata nella zona di Lower Newtownards Road.
La polizia ha detto che diverse bombe molotov sono state lanciate contro gli agenti.
Nell’interfaccia di Short Strand nazionalisti e lealisti si sono lanciati bottiglie e fuochi d’artificio.
La polizia antisommossa ha sparato un proiettile di plastica ed è intervenuto il cannone ad acqua.
Al momento non ci sono notizie di feriti.
“La polizia ha fatto appello alla calma nella zona e ha chiesto alla persone con influenza sulla popolazione di fare tutto quello che possono per ripristinare la calma”, aveva spiegato in precedenza un portavoce della PSNI.
Newtownards Road è stata riaperta al traffico. La polizia sta attualmente monitorando la zona.
Nel frattempo la polizia sta consigliando la popolazione di evitare le zone di Broadway e Glenmachen per la presenza di una folla di circa 50 persone.
“Pietre e altri missili vengono lanciati contro la polizia”, riferisce un comunicato della PSNI.
La polizia ha confermato che a North Belfast diverse centinaia di persone stanno protestando in Twaddell Avenue.
La strada è stata chiusa per un po’ di tempo, ma adesso è regolarmente transitabile.
Una folla si è anche riunita in Shore Road, all’ingresso del quartiere lealista di Mount Vernon, chiudendola al traffico.
A causa del raduno di molte persone a Portadown gli automobilisti sono stati invitati ad evitare la zona di Corcrain.
Park Road è chiusa dal suo incrocio con Garvaghy Road.
Corcrain Road è chiusa dall’incrocio con Ballyoran Hill fino all’incrocio con Northway.
Charles Street è chiusa da Loughgall Road fino all’incrocio con Corcrain Road.

Blast bombs thrown in east Belfast
The PSNI say at least four blast bombs have been thrown at police lines in east Belfast, during the fourth consecutive night of violence in the city, with protests and road closures also affecting Portadown.
Violence flared in the Lower Newtownards Road area on Monday evening.
Police said several petrol bombs were thrown at officers.
It is understood bottles and firework were also thrown between rival loyalist and nationalist crowds at the Short Strand interface.
Riot police have fired one baton round and water cannon has been deployed.
There are no reports of any injuries at this stage.
“Police would appeal for calm in the area and would call on those with influence to do what they can to help restore calm,” a PSNI spokesman said earlier.
The Newtownards Road has reopened to traffic. Police are currently monitoring the area.
Meanwhile, police are advising the public to avoid the Broadway and Glenmachen Street areas due to a crowd of around 50 people.
“Stones and other missiles are being thrown at police,” a PSNI statement said.
In north Belfast, several hundred people are protesting at Twaddell Avenue, police have confirmed.
The road was blocked for a time, but has since reopened.
A crowd has also gathered on the Shore Road, at the entrance of the Mount Vernon estate, closing it to traffic.
Elsewhere, in Co Armagh, motorists are being advised to avoid the Corcrain area of Portadown due gathered crowds.
Park Road is closed from its junction with Garvaghy Road.
Corcrain Road is closed from its junction of Ballyoran Hill to its junction with Northway.
Charles Street is closed from its junction Loughgall Road to its junction with Corcrain Road.
