Four charged after Ballycastle riot
Four men in their 20s have been charged with a number of offences following outbreaks of rioting in the Diamond area of Ballycastle on Monday.
The men will face charges of riotous behaviour, possession of offensive weapons and resisting arrest when they appear at Coleraine Magistrates Court next month.
Nineteen people were arrested in the Co Antrim town over a disturbance in the early hours of Monday morning.
Two police officers were injured when bottles and missiles were thrown by a large crowd during riots which lasted over an hour.
Riot squads were called in to quell the violence, however their tactics were criticised by local councillor Padraig McShane, who claimed officers were goading rioters.
However a DUP member of Moyle council, George Hartin, called the incident a deliberate attempt to draw the police into a confrontation.
The trouble took place just hours before thousands arrived in the town to celebrate the Auld Lammas Fair.
The charges faced by the four men are to be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
