Man seriously injured in gang attack
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attack in Ballymena in the early hours of Sunday morning that left another man seriously injured.
The 30-year-old victim was attacked by up to five men near the town hall in Linenhall Street at around 1am on Sunday.
He suffered serious head injuries and remains in hospital.
His condition last night was not clear as his family has requested that absolutely no further information about the victim is released by the medical authorities.
A detailed examination of the scene of the assault was carried out by police officers yesterday.
The gang ran off down Bridge Street towards Harryville after the assault.
Police have said they are still trying to establish a motive and have appealed for witnesses.
The man, who was arrested in the Ballymena area was still being questioned by detectives last night.
A motive for the assault is under investigation and police in Ballymena are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.

Padraig McShane said he had identified his alleged attacker to police.
Police confirmed last night that they are investigating a report of common assault in the William Street area at around 11pm on Saturday night.
A woman was assaulted by a man in Omagh in the early hours of yesterday man.
The woman was attacked by the man in the Drumragh Avenue area near the leisure centre sometime between 2am and 3.30 am.
Following a search of the surrounding area, the woman’s handbag was recovered in the area close to the bus station.
Police in Omagh are appealing for witnesses.
