La Real IRA sta continuando a reclutare persone da entrambi i lati del confine, afferma la Gardaí
Negli ultimi mesi la polizia locale è riuscita a interrompere gli sforzi dei repubblicani che stavano pianificando di attaccare le forze di sicurezza nel Nord.
Un importante fattore in questi risultati positivi è stato il controllo delle loro attività, comprese quelle del presunto leader della Real IRA, che vive a Louth.
Il gruppo sta continuando a pianificare la propria campagna contro il processo di pace e secondo il Soprintendente della Garda, Gerard Curley, “stiamo trovando segni del loro reclutamento e non solo in questa località”.
Le forze di sicurezza stanno trovando importanti prove del reclutamento nel Nord ma la Gardaí è a conoscenza di simili sforzi anche nella Repubblica.
“La minaccia è ancora molto viva e ci sono alcuni giocatori chiave. Dobbiamo assicurarci che se c’è una minaccia riusciamo a prevenirla prima che avvenga” ha riferito un importante fonte nella polizia irlandese.
Il ministro della Giustizia Dermot Ahern ha detto: “Operazioni di intelligence che hanno come obiettivo i gruppi repubblicani continuano ad essere una priorità per An Garda Siochana, commisurato alla minaccia messa in atto.
“Esiste una stretta collaborazione a tutti i livelli tra An Garda Siochana e la controparte in Irlanda del Nord nel contrastare e investigare le attività di tale gruppo.

Growing fears as Real IRA recruits north and south
THE Real IRA is continuing to recruit both sides of the border, according to gardai.
In recent months gardai in this area have been successful in scuppering the efforts of dissidents planning attacks on the security forces in the North.
A significant factor in these successful outcomes was the close monitoring of their activities, including those of the alleged leader of the Real IRA, who lives in Louth.
The group is continuing to plan its campaign against the peace process and according to Garda Superintendent Gerard Curley: “We are finding signs that they are recruiting and not just in this locality.”
Security sources are finding greater evidence of recruitment by the Real IRA in the North but gardai are aware of efforts in the Republic as well.
“The threat is still very much alive and there are a number of key players. We must ensure that if there is any threat at all we must prevent it before it happens,” said a senior Garda source.
Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern said: “Intelligence-led operations targeting the activities of dissident republican groups continue to be given priority by An Garda Siochana, commensurate with the threat posed.
“Close co-operation exists at all levels between An Garda Siochana and its Northern Ireland counterparts in countering and investigating the activites of such groups.”
