Paddy Dixon, 48 anni di Navan, è stato dimesso dall’ospedale di Drogheda dove è stato medicato per le ferite al viso, mani e corpo risultato dello scoppio che lo ha ricoperto di schegge di vetro.
In una dichiarazione, la Real IRA afferma: “Dixon era un informatore e ha passato notizie alla Gardai. Vogliamo mandare un messaggio: se sei un informatore, ti prenderemo. Sono passati 12 anni da quando questo è emerso e la sua vita resta in pericolo. E’ un informatore ben noto. E’ entrato ed uscito dal Paese negli ultimi anni. Pensavamo che la migliore opzione fosse farlo saltare in aria, per mandare un messaggio a tutti gli altri informatori. E’ stato fortunato, perché è ancora vivo”.
Ma adesso che sono uscite illazioni che la vita di un ex sergente della Garda del Donegal potrebbe essere in pericolo.
Su un quotidiano nazionale, infatti, erano state pubblicate le ragioni per l’attacco contro Dixon, definito un informatore dall’ex sergente di Ballybofey, John White. L’ex ufficiale ha sempre negato tali affermazioni. White era stato licenziato da An Garda Siochana – la polizia della Repubblica d’Irlanda – nel dicembre 2006 per i risultati del Tribunale Morris in relazione al modulo Ardara.
Il suo avvocato, Paudge Dorrian, afferma: “Uno dei maggiori problemi è che la vita di John White è stata messa in pericolo dalla pubblicazione della notizia che lui era la persona definita un informatore da Paddy Dixon. Non è vero”, dice il legale.
White si dice “assolutamente stupefatto” per la pubblicità negativa che lo ha colpito per aver esposto Paddy Dixon ed averlo definito una spia.
Ha aggiunto che, senza rispetto per qualsiasi altra considerazione, le risultanze del Tribunale Morris che hanno visto White lasciare il lavoro erano “opinioni di un importante cittadino in pensione e non avevano alcuna validità, né legalmente né fattualmente”.
“Non avevano status legale”, ha affermato.
“La mia opinione, l’opinione di John White o l’opinione dell’uomo che passa per strada hanno la stessa validità del giudizio di Morris e di conseguenza vanno e dovrebbero essere ignorate. E’ tempo che la saga del Tribunale Morris venga giudicata per quello che è, una farsa”.
John White venne prosciolto da due diverse giurie nel Donegal per qualsiasi malefatta.
In relazione alle prossime azioni di White, Dorrian ha rivelato che alcune procedure legali sono state avviate al momento e sperano di poter mostrare altre questioni comprese le dichiarazioni che, afferma, sono trattenute da An Garda Siochana.
“Stiamo chiedendo un’inchiesta su questi argomenti in base a questi elementi: le vite di Dixon e White sono state messe in pericolo; un danno incalcolabile è stato fatto alla famiglia White come risultato della pubblicazione di mercoledì scorso; reati correlati al mio cliente in base all’Official Secrets Act non sono mai stati investigati, nessun’azione disciplinare è stata intrapresa contro le persone coinvolte, nessun procedimento è stato avviato dal Ministero della Giustizia o dal comandante della Garda in relazione all’infrazione della sicurezza e nessuna azione è stata presa dal signor Frederick Morris come presidente del tribunale”, afferma l’avvocato.
Dorrian aggiunge che non ci sono precedenti per una mancata indagine su un’infrazione all’Official Secret Act. “Adesso è divetato così importante, con l’attacco alla vita di Dixon”, conclude.

Could Real IRA claim put ex-cop in danger?
Navan based Paddy Dixon (48) was later discharged from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was treated for injuries to his face, hands and body as a result of the blast, which showered him with shards of glass.
In a statement, the Real IRA said: “Dixon was an informer and he passed on information to gardai. We want to send a message out that if you are an informer we will get you. It is 12 years since this emerged and his life remains in danger. He was a known informer. He had been in and out of the country for the last number of years. We thought the best option was to blow him up to send out a message to all other informers that you will be killed. He is very lucky he is still alive.”
But now it has been claimed that allegations that a former Donegal Garda Detective-Sergeant had exposed the Real IRA operative has now placed the ex-cop’s life in danger too.
Allegations surfaced in a national newspaper that the reason why Dixon was targeted was due to the claim he had been named as an informant by Ballybofey-based former Detective-Sergeant, John White. White has strenuously denied this. White was sacked from An Garda Siochana in December 2006 as a result of one finding in the Morris Tribunal in relation to the Ardara module.
His solicitor, Paudge Dorrian said: “One of the major problems is that John White’s life has been put in danger as a result of the publication of an allegation that he was the person who exposed Paddy Dixon as a garda informant. This is not so,” said Paudge Dorrian.
Mr White said he was “absolutely stunned” with the publicity which completely blamed him for outing Paddy Dixon and named him as a tout.
He added that irrespective of any other consideration, the Morris Tribunal findings which saw Mr White dismissed form his job, were “opinions of one retired senior citizen and they had no validity, either at law or in fact”.
“They have no legal status,” he claimed.
“My opinion, John White’s opinion or the opinion of the man walking down the street has the same validity as Morris’s opinion and consequently has to be ignored and should be ignored. It’s time that the Morris Tribunal saga was exposed for what it really is, a farce.”
John White was acquitted in two separate trials for any wrongdoing by two separate juries in Donegal.
In relation to future actions involving Mr White, Mr Dorrian revealed that certain proceedings were in train at the moment and they hoped to expose further matters at a later stage including statements that, he claimed, were withheld by An Garda Siochana.
“We are now calling for an inquiry into this matter on the following grounds: the lives of Dixon and White have been put in jeopardy; immeasurable damage has been done to the White family as a result of last Wednesday’s publication; offences relating to my client under the Official Secrets Act were never investigated, no disciplinary action was taken against those involved, no proceedings were taken by the Minister for Justice or the Garda Commissioner in relation to the breaches of security and no action was taken by Mr Frederick Morris as chairman of the tribunal,” he said.
Mr Dorrian added it was unprecedented where a breach of the Official Secrets Act was alleged that it was not investigated. “It has now become so important with the attack on Mr Dixon’s life,” he said.
