Nella dichiarazione per il nuovo anno rilasciata esclusivamente al Sunday Tribune, l’organizzazione paramilitare detto che le forze di sicurezza stanno completamente fallendo nel gestire la minaccia che essa pone.
Negli ultimi 12 mesi, la Real IRA ha eseguito diversi attentati, ma non ha causato alcun morto alle forze di sicurezza da quando ha colpito a morte i due soldati britannici a Massereene Barracks nel marzo 2009, né ha lanciato alcun attacco in Gran Bretagna.
Nella sua dichiarazione, l’Army Council della Real IRA afferma: “Durante l’anno a venire, la leadership di Oglaigh na hEireann cercherà di espandere il teatro delle sue operazioni, in linea con la nostra strategia. Continueremo a colpire le istituzioni ed il personale nei settori militari, politici, di polizia, giustizia ed in campi economico e commerciale”. La Real IRA ha detto di aver imparato dagli “errori del passato”, dei quali non ha parlato.
Ha già intrapreso un’azione spietata contro chi, sostiene Real IRA, “collabora con il dominio britannico in Irlanda”. Il commando autore dell’assalto a Massereene Barracks infatti aveva volutamente aperto il fuoco, con l’obiettivo di uccidere, contro i due fattorini che stavano consegnando le pizze ai soldati.
Il gruppo paramilitare ha ripetuto questa minaccia. “Coloro che attivamente impegnati nell’occupazione dell’Irlanda e coloro che assistono questa occupazione sono nemici del popolo irlandese”, ha detto. Negli ultimi mesi, la Real IRA ha fatto esplodere un’autobomba davanti al tribunale di Newry e contro la sede di Ulster Bank a Derry. L’agente di polizia cattolico Peadar Heffron ha perso una gamba, sfuggendo alla morte, quando una bomba piazzata da un altro gruppo repubblicano era esplosa sotto la sua auto.
La Real IRA ha sostenuto che i continui attacchi repubblicani hanno dimostrato che la politica di normalizzazione della vita nel Nord, portata avanti dai due governi, era fallita.
“Lo scorso anno, non ci sono errori sul fatto che esiste u conflitto nell’Irlanda occupata. I britannici, il Free State ed il parlamento coloniale nelle Sei Contee collettivamente non sono stati in grado di nascondere o far fronte a questo fatto”, affermano i repubblicani.
Il comunicato ha respinto le incursioni da parte delle forze di sicurezza e l’arresto e la condanna dei repubblicani. “Nessuna delle suddette misure hanno funzionato in passato, né funzionano ora”, ha detto. Riferendosi ai Provisional, che si oppongono fermamente ai repubblicani, ha affermato che il divario tra i due gruppi ormai è enorme.

Statement details organisation’s plan to ‘expand theatre of operations’
In a new year statement released exclusively to the Sunday Tribune, the paramilitary organisation said the security forces were completely failing to deal with the threat it posed.
In the past 12 months, the Real IRA carried out several bombings, but it has not inflicted any fatalities on the security forces since it murdered two British soldiers at Massereene in March 2009, nor has it launched any attacks in Britain.
In its statement, the Real IRA Army Council said: “In the year to come, the leadership of Óglaigh na hÉireann will strive to expand the theatre of our operations in line with our strategy. We will continue to target institutions and personnel in the military, political, policing, justice and commercial and economic fields.” The Real IRA said it had learned from “past mistakes” which it didn’t detail.
It has previously taken ruthless action against those whom it claims “collaborate with British rule in Ireland”. It deliberately shot and tried to kill two workers delivering pizzas to the soldiers at Massereene.
The paramilitary group repeated this threat. “Those who actively engaged in the occupation of Ireland and those who assist this occupation are the enemies of the Irish people,” it said. In recent months, the Real IRA launched bomb attacks on Newry courthouse and the Ulster Bank in Derry. Catholic police officer Peadar Heffron lost a leg and narrowly escaped death when a bomb planted by another dissident group exploded under his car.
The Real IRA claimed that continuing dissident attacks showed that the two governments’ policy of normalisation of life in the North had failed.
“In the past year, there has been no mistaking the fact that a conflict exists in occupied Ireland. The British, Free State, and colonial parliament in the six counties have collectively been unable to conceal or deal with this fact,” it said.
It dismissed raids by the security forces and the arrest and conviction of republican dissidents. “None of the above measures have worked in the past, nor will they work now,” it said. In a reference to the Provisional movement, which strongly opposes republican dissidents, it said the gulf between the two was now huge.
