I repubblicani della Real IRA hanno ammesso la responsabilità per tre attacchi vavvenuti a Derry
Il primo ordigno è esploso fuori dalla casa dei suoi genitori a Shantallow, mentre una pipe bomb è stata esaminata all’esterno della casa di sua sorella, a Kylemore Park.
In un comunicato, il gruppo si è assunto la paternità anche dell’attacco contro un uomo, cui hanno sparato alle gambe e ad una mano intorno all’1:30.
Alcuni uomini a volto coperto sono penetrati nella sua abitazione in Drumard Park a Ballymagroarty.
L’uomo è stato trasferito in ospedale. Le sue condizioni sono stabili.
A Derry ci sono stati sei attacchi in stile paramilitare nelle ultime quattro settimane.
Ordigno
Alcune persone sono state costrette a lasciare le loro abitazioni in Kylemore Park, quando un ordigno è scato scoperto, intorno alle 7:30 di venerdì mattina.
Un’esplosione controllata è stata eseguita per neutralizzare quella che la polizia ha descritto come “una pipe bomb funzionante”. E’ stata portata via per ulteriori esami, ed i residenti hanno ricevuto il permesso di rientrare a casa.
Nella deflagrazione di Shantallow un’autovettura è stata danneggiata, ma nessuno è rimasto ferito.
Il soprintendente capo Steven Martin ha affermato che gli ordigni “potevano causare vittime”.
“Ecco cosa sono i terroristi, cercano di provocare dolore e distruzione”, ha proseguito.
“Posso assicurarvi che l’agente in questione, cui ho parlato oggi, si impegna per la sicurezza e sarà presto in strada a fare il suo lavoro.
“Il suo coraggio contrasta con le azioni codarde di coloro che la scorsa notte hanno piazzato questi ordigni in strade normali di questa città”, ha aggiunto.
Il ministro della sicurezza Paul Goggins riferisce che i responsabili sono “al di là del disprezzo”.
“Nessuno dovrebbe illudersi dei motivi dietro coloro che, coperti dall’oscurità, lasciano ordigni all’esterno di abitazioni”, ha affermato.
“Sono una minaccia per la locale comunità, vogliono infliggere dolore e sofferenza alla gente che vive in quella comunità e non si interessano di chi possono uccidere o ferire”.
Solidarietà
Il parlamentare dello Sinn Fein, Raymond McCartney, chiede alla comunità di mostrare solidarietà alla famiglia.
“Mentre molte persone stanno lavorando per costruire un futuro pacifico, sembra che un gruppo minuscolo e non rappresentativo ritenga che portando attacchi vigliacchi basati su false scuse, possa vanificarei continui progressi”, ha aggiunto.
“Non avranno successo e dovrebbero cessare le loro attività prima di causare la morte di gente innocente”.
Il leader dello SDLP, Mark Durkan, parla di attacco “vile”.
“Questi sono sinistri tentativi non solo di innervosire un giovane ufficiale e la sua famiglia ma di intimidire l’intera comunità”, ha riferito.
“Il sistema di polizia che abbiamo adesso è stato voluto dalla popolazione irlandese, sia a nord che a sud, tramite il Good Friday Agreement (Accordo del Venerdì Santo).
“Coloro che sono nelle sue fila stanno eseguendo un lavoro patriottico che ha l’appoggio della stragrande maggioranza degli abitanti di Derry e della nazione”.

RIRA claim three Derry attacks
The dissident republican Real IRA have admitted three overnight attacks in Londonderry.
The first device exploded outside his parents’ home in Shantallow, while a pipe bomb was examined outside his sister’s home in Kylemore Park.
In a statement, the group also claimed responsibility for shooting a man in his legs and hand at about 0130 BST.
A number of masked men forced their way into his house at Drumard Park in Ballymagroarty.
The man was taken to hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
There have been six paramilitary-style shootings in Derry in the past four weeks.
Device
Several people were asked to leave their homes in Kylemore Park when a device was spotted at about 0730 BST.
A controlled explosion was carried out on what police described as “a viable pipe bomb-type device”. It was taken away for further examination, and local residents have since been allowed to return home.
In the Shantallow explosion, a car was damaged but no-one was injured.
Chief Superintendent Steven Martin said the devices planted were “capable of taking life”.
“That’s what terrorist criminals are about, they seek to cause harm and destruction,” he said.
“I can assure you that the police officer in question, who I’ve spoken to today, is committed to policing and will be out doing his duty very quickly.”
“His bravery contrasts starkly to the cowardly actions of those last night who put these devices in ordinary streets in the Cityside of this city,” he added.
Northern Ireland Security Minister Paul Goggins said those responsible were “beyond contempt”.
“No-one should be under any illusion of the motives behind those who, under the cover of darkness, leave devices outside family homes,” he said.
“They are a threat to the local community, they want to inflict pain and suffering on the people living in that community and do not care who they kill or injure.”
‘Solidarity’
Sinn Fein assembly member Raymond McCartney urged the community to show solidarity with the family.
“While most people are working to build a peaceful future it would seem that a minuscule and unrepresentative group think that by carrying out cowardly actions based on spurious excuses, they will frustrate continued progress,” he said.
“They will not succeed and should stop their activity before it leads to the killing of more innocent people.”
SDLP leader and Foyle MP Mark Durkan, described the attacks as “cowardly”.
“These are sinister attempts not only to unnerve a young officer and his family but to intimidate the entire community,” he said.
“The policing service which we now have has been mandated by the Irish people, north and south, in the Good Friday Agreement.
“Those who serve in its ranks are carrying out a patriotic duty which has the endorsement of the overwhelming number of citizens in Derry and the country.”
