La polizia sta indagando sulle minaccia sollevate contro alcune scuole di North Belfast
Venerdì le minacce sarebbero partite dal gruppo paramilitare lealista dei Red Hand Defenders.
La PSNI è stata avvertita della minaccia e sta svolgendo indagini. Chiede ai leader comunitari di giocare “un ruolo attivo nel allentare la tensione”.
La dichiarazione continua: “La polizia è a conoscenza di una minaccia fatta in relazione ad un certo numero di scuole di North Belfast.
“La minaccia è stata fatta venerdì 6 settembre 2013 attraverso una terza parte. Le Indagini sono in corso. In questa fase non ci sono prove per corroborare la minaccia.
“La polizia si è impegnata a tutelare tutte le comunità di North Belfast e vorremmo incoraggiare tutti i leader della comunità e quelli in posizioni di influenza di svolgere un ruolo attivo nel diminuire la tensione e mantenere la calma”.
Gerry Kelly dello Sinn Féin ha condannato la minaccia.
“Questa è una vergognosa e sinistra dichiarazione contro i bambini delle scuole, i loro genitori e gli insegnanti”, ha detto il parlamentare di North Belfast.
“I responsabili hanno minacciato azioni violente contro i bambini.
“Dobbiamo ora vedere i leader unionisti e lealisti uscire e condannare queste minacce nei termini più forti possibili, chiedere ai Red Hand Defenders di ritirare questa minaccia e sostenere attivamente i diritti di ogni bambino di frequentare qualsiasi scuola di loro scelta ovunque sia situata e ricevere la loro educazione con senza paura o intimidazione”.

‘Paramilitary threat to Belfast schools’
Police are investigating a threat allegedly made by loyalist paramilitaries towards a number of schools in north Belfast.
It has been claimed it was issued by the Red Hand Defenders on Friday.
The PSNI said they are aware of the threat and are looking into it. They urged local community leaders to play “an active role in diffusing tension”.
A statement continued: “Police are aware of a threat that has been made in relation to a number of schools in north Belfast.
“The threat was made through a third party on Friday 6 September 2013. Investigations into the threat are ongoing. At this stage there is no evidence to corroborate the threat.
“Police are committed to protecting all communities in North Belfast and we would encourage all community leaders and those in positions of influence to play an active role in diffusing tension and maintaining calm.”
Gerry Kelly of Sinn Féin has condemned the threat.
“This is a disgraceful and sinister statement to come from any organisation or individual against school children, their parents and teachers,” the North Belfast MLA said.
“Those responsible have threatened violent action against children.
“We must now see unionist and loyalist leaders coming out and condemning these threats in the strongest possible terms, call on the Red Hand Defenders to withdraw this threat and actively support the rights of any child to attend any school of their choice where ever it may be situated and receive their education with without fear or intimidation.”
