Empey si è dimesso dal ruolo di leader dopo che il partito non è riuscito a conquistare neppure un seggio alle elezioni generali per Westminster.
Sir Reg ha guidato l’UUP per cinque anni e, dopo la nomina di Tom Elliott a nuovo leader del partito, ha lasciato anche il posto di ministro.
Il suo nome è stato incluso nella lista di Pari pubblicata venerdì. E’ la prima lista presentata da quando David Cameron è divenuto Primo ministro a giugno.
Empey ha detto che continuerà a lavorare per l’Irlanda del Nord anche nel suo nuovo ruolo.

Sir Reg stood down as party leader this year after his party failed to win any seats in the General Election.
He led the party for five years and stood down as employment and learning minister after Tom Elliott became UUP leader.
His name was included in a list of peers published on Friday. It is the first list since David Cameron became Prime Minister in June.
Sir Reg said he intends to continue working for Northern Ireland in his new role.
