L’Ulster Unionist Party ha confermato la volontà di Sir Reg Empey di lasciare l’Assemblea
L’ex leader del partito unionista, che ha lasciato il posto dopo il disastroso risultato alle elezioni per Westminster dello scorso anno, non si candiderà alle prossime elezioni per l’Assemblea.
Tom Elliott, nuovo leader UUP, ha ricordato i 25 anni in cui Empey ha rappresentato East Belfast.
“So che ci sarà un’effettiva rappresentanza per tutta la popolazione dell’Irlanda del Nord nella Camera della House of Lords” ha affermato.
Aggiungendo: “Nel frattempo, osservo come il DUP abbia inserito candidati con il doppio incarico nella lista dei nomi per l’Assemblea”.
Elliott afferma che la mossa infrange l’impegno del DUP ad interrompere i doppi mandati.
Il DUP ha fatto notare di aver fatto più progressi di qualsiasi altro partito sulla questione del doppio incarico.

Empey to step down from Assembly
The Ulster Unionist Party has confirmed Sir Reg Empey is to leave the Assembly.
The party’s former leader, who stepped down after its disastrous general election performance last year, will not contest May’s Assembly election.
UUP leader Tom Elliott paid tribute to Lord Empey’s 25 years as a representative of East Belfast.
“I know that he will be an effective advocate for all the people of Northern Ireland in the Chamber of the House of Lords,” he said.
He added: “Meanwhile, I note the DUP have included several double-jobbers in their team of Assembly hopefuls.”
Mr Elliott said this breached DUP commitments to end dual mandates.
The DUP has said it has made more progress on ending double jobbing than other parties who face the issue.
