Il segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord, Shaun Woodward, ha detto che “fornirà una forte guida alla commissione”. Come membro della commissione “è pienamente consapevole delle sfide che porterà questo nuovo ruolo”.
“L’Irlanda del Nord ha ospitato pacifiche stagioni di parate negli ultimi anni e la Commissione Parate ha giocato un ruolo importante nel raggiungimento di questo scopo, ha proseguito Woodward. “L’elezione di Rena porterà stabilità nei mesi a venire e la Commissione Parate resta l’ultimo arbitro nelle materie di parate”.
Ha ringraziato il presidente uscente della Commissione Parate Roger Poole.
Shepherd ha iniziato la sua carriera con PriceWaterhouse ed è attualmente assunta come consulente per l’addestramento ed il sostegno al settore affari e volontario.
Guida anche un sottocomitato presso la Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce (la Camera di Commercio nordirlandese) e siede nel comitato manageriale.
E’ profondamente coinvolta con numerose organizzazioni caritatevoli che sostengono e agiscono a favore delle persone con disabilità.

Parades Commission head announced
Northern Secretary Shaun Woodward said she would “provide strong leadership to the commission”. As a serving commissioner she “is fully aware of all the challenges her new role brings”.
“Northern Ireland has enjoyed peaceful parading seasons in recent years and the Parades Commission has played an important role in helping to deliver that,” he said. “Rena’s appointment brings stability for the months ahead and the Parades Commission remains the final arbiter in parading matters.”
He thanked outgoing Parades Commission chairman Roger Poole.
Ms Shepherd began her career with PriceWaterhouse and is currently employed as a consultant involved in training and support to the business and voluntary sector.
She also heads the policy sub-committee at the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce, and sits on the management committee.
She is heavily involved with a number of charitable organisations that support and lobby on behalf of people with disabilities.
