Quattro persone sono state arrestate dopo una sparatoria tra repubblicani e polizia nella Contea di Fermanagh
Tre uomini sono stati fermati sabato sera dalla PSNI, mentre il quarto uomo è stato fermato dalla polizia irlandese a Dooard, Rossinver, nella Contea di Leitrim.
Attualmente è trattenuto in base alla Sezione 30 dell’Offences Against the State Act (Reati contro lo Stato).
Gli agenti hanno sparato due colpi di arma da fuoco come avvertimento, che saranno indagati dal Police Ombudsman Alan Hutchinson, dopo che gli hanno sparato contro nella cittadini di Garrison, vicino al confine irlandese.
Nessuno è rimasto ferito nell’incidente.
I (dissidenti) repubblicani sono stati anche accusati per l’attacco contro il quartier generale del Policing Board, avvenuto a Belfast nella tarda serata di sabato.
Una bomba di 400 libbre (circa 180 chilogrammi) è parzialmente esplosa fuori dal quartier generale, dopo che un’autovettura ha attraversato le barriere a Clarendon Dock.
Due uomini sono stati visti fuggire.
Anche in questa occasione nessuno è rimasto ferito.
Un’auto è stata trovata in fiamme vicino alla roccaforte repubblicana di New Lodge e la polizia sta indagando se può esserci un collegamento.
Sia Garrison che la zona intorno a Clarendon Dock sono state cordonate mentre la polizia esamina le scene degli attacchi.
Grave
Baggott ha affermato: “Abbiamo detto sin dall’inizio che la situazione sul fronte terrorista era grave. Abbiamo molte risorse impiegate per indagare e contrastare questi attacchi.
Questa aggressione è un’attacco contro il benessere di tutti in Irlanda del Nord, non è solo contro la polizia o il Policing Board, bensì contro tutti i giovani ed il loro futuro”.
Ha quindi aggiunto: “E’ un atto sconsiderato non solo per i danni ma anche per la potenziale perdita di vite umane”.
Il parlamentare dello Sinn Fein Gerry Kelly ha parlato di attacco contro le comunità che hanno eletto i membri del Policing Board.
“E’ inaccettabile e lo condanno”; ha affermato.
“Se questo attacco è lavoro di un piccolo gruppo di militaristi repubblicani allora il mio messaggio per loro è chiaro. Queste azioni sono futili e non servono a far progredire gli obiettivi repubblicani o democratici.
“Queste attività devono finire”.
Naomi Long, parlamentare dell’Alliance Party e sindaco di Belfast, parla di “echi nauseanti dal passato”.
“Non posso esprimere adeguatamente il disprezzo che provo per queste persone. La gente deve lavorare con la polizia per portarli davanti alla giustizia e fermare le loro azioni malvagie”.
Anche il ministro per l’Irlanda del Nord, Paul Goggins, condanna l’attacco.
“Quando avvengono attacchi come questi, la gente deve unirsi con il forte messaggio che questi dissidenti non avranno successo.
“Sono una piccola minoranza, sono avventati ed hanno intenti criminosi.
“La polizia continuerà in Nordirlanda ed il progresso proseguirà”.
Il Policing Board è costituito da membri indipendenti ed altri espressi dai partiti politici che controllano il lavoro della polizia attraverso incontri pubblici.
Il presidente Barry Gilligan dice: “L’attacco della scorsa notte è stato portato contro l’intera comunità e non solo verso i 19 membri del Policing Board ma anche contro il personale che lavora nell’edificio per contro della comunità”.

Four arrested as 400lb bomb found
Four people have been arrested after police exchanged fire with suspected dissident republicans in Co Fermanagh.
Three men were detained by the PSNI, while the fourth man was arrested by Irish police in Dooard, Rossinver in Co Leitrim on Saturday night.
He is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Officers returned two warning shots, which are being investigated by Police Ombudsman Alan Hutchinson, after they were shot at near the village of Garrison, close to the Irish border.
No-one was injured in the incident.
Dissidents are also being blamed for an attack on the Policing Board headquaters in Belfast later on Saturday night.
A 400lb bomb partially exploded outside the police HQ after a car was driven through the barrier at Clarendon Dock.
Two men were seen running off.
No-one was injured in the incident.
A car was also found burned out nearby in the staunchly Republican New Lodge area of the city and police are investigating whether there is any link.
Both Garrison and the area around Clarendon Dock have been cordoned off while police examine the scenes.
‘Severe’
Mr Baggott said: “We have said from day one that the terrorist situation is severe. We have substantial resources being put into investigating and thwarting these attacks.
“This attack is an attack on the well-being of everybody in Northern Ireland, this is not about an attack on policing or the Policing Board, this is an attack on young people and young people’s future.”
Mr Baggott added: “It is a reckless act not just in doing damage but also the potential loss of life.”
Sinn Fein MLA Gerry Kelly said it was an attack on the communities who elected members of the Policing Board.
“It is unacceptable and I condemn it,” he said.
“If this attack is the work of one of the small republican militarist groupings then my message to them is very clear. These actions are futile and have no place in advancing republican or democratic objectives.
“These activities need to end.”
Alliance Party MLA and Belfast Lord Mayor Naomi Long said they had “sickening echoes of the past”.
“I cannot adequately articulate the sheer level of contempt I hold these individuals in. People must work with the police to bring them to justice and stop their evil actions.”
Northern Ireland Minister Paul Goggins also condemned the attack.
“When attacks like these happen it brings people together with the strong message that these dissidents will not succeed.
“They are a small minority, they are reckless and criminally intent.
“Policing will continue in Northern Ireland and progress will continue.”
The Policing Board is made up of independent members of the community and politicians who hold police to account through regular public meetings.
Chairman Barry Gilligan said: “This attack last night was an attack upon the entire community not only the 19 members of the Policing Board but also the staff who work in that building are working on behalf of the community in holding the Chief Constable to account.”
