Repubblicani dietro al ferimento di Derry

Il gruppo di vigilantes repubblicani del RAAD – Republican Action Against Draug – ha detto di aver attaccato il ventisettenne a Derry

La vittima è stata trascinata fuori dalla sua abitazione di Brandywell da un gruppo di uomini a volto coperto, mercoledì scorso, e portato in Meenan Square nel Bogside, dove gli hanno sparato.

I repubblicani sono responsabili per almeno una dozzina di attacchi simili nella cittadina, nell’ultimo anno.

La PSNI si è dichiarata determinata a sciogliere il gruppo.

L’ispettore della PSNI, Jon Burrows, rivelò che l’agente era stato curato in ospedale ma era in grado di ritornare al lavoro fin dal giorno seguente.

“E’ tornato in servizio, a fornire il servizio di polizia alla popolazione locale per farle sentire più al sicuro mentre in auto, a casa o nel quartiere.

“Non penso ci possa essere un contrasto più netto tra un poliziotto, un servitore pubblico che fornisce sicurezza, e i teppisti che lo hanno attaccato”, dice.

Il 27enne vittima della punizione è stato portato in ospedale per le ferite subite.

Dissidents were behind shooting

The dissident republican vigilante group, RAAD – Republican Action Against Drugs- said it carried out a gun attack on a 27-year-old man in Londonderry.

The victim was dragged from a house in the Brandywell by a masked gang last Wednesday and taken to Meenan Square in the Bogside area where he was shot.

Dissident republicans have been blamed for almost a dozen similar attacks in city over the past year.

The PSNI said they were determined to dismantle the group.

One of the police officers who went to the scene of the shooting last week was knocked unconscious after he was hit on the head with a lump of concrete.

PSNI Inspector Jon Burrows said the officer was treated in hospital but was back at work the next day.

“He’s back on duty, back delivering a policing service to the local people here to try and make them safer in their cars, their homes and their neighbourhoods.

“I don’t think a clearer contrast could be had than between that police officer, a public servant who is back delivering policing and making people safer, and the thugs who attacked him,” he said.

The 27-year-old shooting victim was also treated in hospital for his injuries.
