In un comunicato, il gruppo parla di “tentato assassinio” neiconfronti di una persona contro cui hanno sollevato pesanti accuse. Il nome dell’uomo è scritto sulla dichiarazione.
L’uomo sarebe rimasto illeso in seguito all’attacco.
Il comunicato di RAAD dice: “Tre volontari erano armati con pistole e una mitraglietta Uzi da 9 mm. Hanno sparato con l’Uzi contro… E’ scappato verso le case, costringendo i volontari ad interrompere l’azione”.
Il gruppo si impegna anche a cercare di ripetere l’attacco contro l’uomo e, in un agghiacciante avvertimento, afferma che “lo ucciderà alla prima opportunità”.
Il RAAD minaccia di uccidere chiunque fornirà “aiuto logistico” all’uomo.
Sarebbe stata la prima volta che il RAAD ha utilizzato armi automatiche durante un attacco a Derry. In precedenza il gruppo aveva sparato decine di proiettili in aria nel corso di un episodio avvenuto a Creggan lo scorso anno.

RAAD claim to have fired Uzi in Brandywell
In a statement, the group claimed the incident was an “attempted assassination” of an individual who they made allegations against. The man was named in the statement.
It is believed that the man was unharmed during the gun attack.
The RAAD statement said: “Three volunteers [were] armed with handguns and an Uzi 9mm submachine gun. They fired a burst from the Uzi at ….He ran towards houses forcing the volunteers to break off the action.”
The vigilante group also vowed to repeat its attack on the man and, in a chilling warning said it would “kill him at the earliest opportunity.”
The group also threatened to kill anyone providing “logistical help” to the man.
It is believed to have been the first time RAAD has used automatic weapons in an attack against an individual in the city. The group previously said it fired dozens of shots in the air during an incident in Creggan last year.
