“Digiunare per 3 giorni non è una bazzecola”, afferma Ciaran Cunningham, portavoce di Cogús, “ma almeno alla fine noi siamo in grado di tornare a casa dalle nostre famiglie e dai nostri cari. Roisin Lynch, la compagna di Brendan, non ha questa possibilità grazie a David Ford e al ministero dell’Ingiustizia di Stormont. Non c’è logica o compassione qui e chiunque ritenga Brendan Lillis una minaccia va al di là della comprensione”.
RNU ritiene che Brendan Lillis dovrebbe essere a casa, non solo per un rilascio umanitario, ma anche perché non ci sono ragioni legali alla sua permanenza a Maghaberry, considerato che non ci sono accuse contro di lui, anche se gli hanno revocato la licenza. Brendan Lillis è un uomo confinato a letto per 600 giorni, può a malapena parlare, non riesce a camminare ed è così debole che tragicamente ha solo pochi giorni di vita. Questo può defiirsi solamente una crudeltà.
Ciaran prosegue: “Il sistema di rilasciare una persona con una licenza dovrebbe essere abolito perché si tratta essenzialmente di una minaccia messa sulla tsta di una persona, che può vedersela revocare dal Segretario di Stato”.
Republican Network for Unity desidere esprimere la propria solidarietà a Roisin e Brendan, lodando il loro coraggio. Chiediamo a chiunque, repubblicano oppure no, di sostenere la campagna per l’immediato rilascio di Brendan.
RNU DEMAND IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF BRENDAN LILLIS
‘Fasting for 3 days is no easy task’, says Ciaran Cunningham, RNU/ Cogús spokesperson, ‘but at least we are able to go home to our families and loved ones at the end of it. Roisín Lynch, Brendan’s partner, does not have that option thanks to David Ford and the Stormont’s Department of Injustice. There is no logic or compassion here and how anyone can perceive Brendan Lillis as a threat is beyond comprehension’.
RNU believe that Brendan Lillis should be at home, not just on compassionate grounds, but also because there are no legal reasons for him to be in Maghaberry, considering that there are no charges against him, yet has his licence revoked. Brendan Lillis is a man who has been confined to his bed for over 600 days, can barely talk, cannot walk and is so weak that tragically has been given days to live. This can only be described as cruelty.
Ciaran continued; ‘the system of a person being ‘released on licence’ should be abolished as it’s essentially a threat on people’s heads and a person can have their licence revoked at the whim of the British Secretary of State’.
The Republican Network for Unity wish to express our solidarity with Roisín and Brendan and commend their bravery. We urge everyone, Republican or otherwise to campaign for the immediate release of Brendan.
